This year its a 1000 mile, 3 day event in August. Sort of a mini-rallye, without the rollcharts, or a mini-ISDE. The event organizer has done a few of these kinds of races in the past, with mixed success. I was at the 3 day Nevada 1000 a few years ago and really liked it, until my partner cartwheeled my '05 510 on day 2.

Im thinking with the economy so bad, and the violence in baja so bad, this race will probably be a big draw. Im guessing Zip Tye will be there with the 510's. Usually a few Dakar hopefulls will test stuff at these events. KTM, Kawasaki, and a satellite Honda team will most likely show up.

Im thinking about testing out my 610 in 'rally trim' for a shake down, in the Ironman class, but thats subject to change.

Its a bit of a logistical consideration. Different nights in different locations, and pits every 50 miles or so.

Anyone else going? Wanna share Husky pits, spares, etc? Just an idea.

So i talked to the race promoter today.

The Vegas to Reno WILL have a parc ferme. Racers will have 1 hour after they finish the days racing to work on their bikes, and then each bike will be parked for the night. A very cool event indeed. Im in.

It will probably be the longest off road race in the USA this decade. :excuseme:

The average temperature in Vegas in August is 103 degrees. If they happen to catch it on a hot day it could be 120. Definitely a race for someone in better shape than I am. Ken

While Vegas is certainly hot that time of year, the race usually goes up into the various mountains north. In years past temps in Vegas during check in hovered around 100+, but during the race it really wasnt that bad, at all.

In one section views of the high sierras off in the distance capped with snow offered a psychological cooling off.

Anyway--for those considering the race, dont worry about high temps, its hot but doable.

They're trying to put a stop to the V2R this year! Just read about it on D37ama.org message board. Under the off road forum(action alert post).

I will be going up to Mammoth Lakes in the first week of Aug. for a 2-3 week stay.

I'll talk to the wife about this. Vegas is a ways, but Tonopah and Carson City aren't.

It appears something is happening in Primm NV on Wed when I'll be driving through there anyway so I might stop and take a quick peek.

Can I assume you are not doing this Mike? It was a while ago when this thread was started...

some here at the cafe know him from bajabound adventures. he said he is with 2 Canadians (actually he said Canucks) from what I read from the cryptic text.
If ya see him tell him I said its too dang hot in Nev in August to ride R

PS I guess my 90% XR650 guess just fell to the 10% CRF450 fact.

wow this event is bigtime,,,http://www.bitd.com/ as Mike said up top!
