Hey guys I'm trying to find out what luggage options there are for my bike or even what sort of universal rack I would need for a top box. I use my bike to commute to work and am planning a holiday to Scotland on it next year.

If you want to install a luggage rack and a hard top-box, you can find some threads on AdvRider (e.g. here). You should probably reinforce the rear frame if go this route. The Te 630 Sub-frame Mode thread is a good place to start for this.

Instead of hard luggage and a luggage rack, I opted for soft luggage on my 610. I use a Giant Loop Great Basin together with an Ortlieb 31L Motorcycle Rackpack, and a Giant Loop Diablo.

Of these, I use the Ortlieb the most - its a great size for an overnight pack, its waterproof, it straps on easily, and fits the 610 really well. Here's the Ortlieb:

One reason I went with the Giant Loop is that it sits far enough forward on the bike that the aluminum tail subframe is not heavily loaded. We've even strapped tires on top of the GL. Here's my buddy Sam Cuttriss's SM with a TE tire set and GL luggage:

Looks great. With the soft luggage sitting forward am I right in saying you don't need the subframe reinforced? Have you any links to the ortlieb and giant loop? Thanks

Depends on how large the boulders you ride over are! My pack is 20 kilos and I've had no problems with the GL. I haven't reinforced my frame. But I don't do aggressive / technical riding.

(Ortlieb do a "motorcycle" rack pack too, which looks like it is made from thicker fabric and has reflectors and a compression valve:

There is an interesting Advrider thread comparing the GL and Ortlieb. John_L mentions he has a TE610 and has used both Ortlieb Speedbags and GL Great Basin, and eventually sold the GL because the Ortliebs are easier to access and dry, whereas the GL lets in water... so that's one thumbs up for the Ortlieb speedbags. John uses a DirtBagz mounting bracket (here), which has a TE610 model. Might be worth dropping him a line to see if that saves his plastics.

The GL does leak despite applying lots of seam sealer. I just use the GL as a shell and put things inside within their own plastic bags.

I've had no complaints and no water infiltration issues with my Giant Loop Coyote bag on my SM610. There's enough room that I can pack all I need for a four day trip and have room left over, eliminating the need for a backpack.

I use the wolfman enduro saddlebags, duffle, and tank bag they are very nice quality and fit the sm610 very well. I did a 1200 mile trip back in august and the bags fit everything I needed.

[IMG] Just installed a 33L Givi MonoKey B33NMK top case with MonoKey universal mount and ProMo Billet rack (No sub-frame mods, but bike is primarily used for highway commuting to work).

Cool looks good. I ended up getting a duratool box and drilled holes to match the existing rack. image.jpg image.jpg

Sorry to go off topic John but how are your plastics in such good condition? Mine are terrible.

It was off the road from 2004 til I got it last year. The left hand exhaust plastic was a bit melted so I bought a new one and got a friend to make me up some stickers.

My exhaust had a bit of a blow too and melted right through. Patched it up with plastic filler and vinyl wrapped the panels (badly). Where did you buy the panel? I've been searching for a while but all I seem to find is stuff for more recent machines.
