125-200cc 01 & Earlier WR125 Transmission

Looking for the the earlier WR125 Transmission.
I believe the 98-01 was a wider ratio or different first gear to 02 on?

Anyone have one for sale?

Also seen them on ebay occasionally for various years but is there any way to tell if it's definitely pre 02 by looking at pictures or asking seller to count teeth etc?

just a quick look and a 1999 wr & cr shared the same transmission. In 2004 the wr still used the same transmission but the cr had changed. The 2008 is different than both of the 2004 models but once again the wr & cr share the same transmission.

If it helps at all the early WR cog box has 28-11 as a first gear ratio so reasonably easy to count from pictures but finding one is another thing.
Last model to use the wide ratio box was 2002 I think.
165 is far better suited to the early box in my humble opinion as it can be geared tall but still keeps 1st as a good granny gear.

I always count the teeth on integral lay shaft first gear. It is 11 teeth on the older WR tranny. All the other 125 tranny's from 04 on will have 14 teeth and will be the closer ratio. 6th is the same on all the trannies but on the WR tranny 1st is lower and all the gears in between are evenly spaced getting to that 6th gear. The older WR tranny is much better for the big bore Italian Huskies.

I have an engine in the garage I purchased cheap a while back for spares, looks like a CR as it has the smaller flywheel but I'm fairly certain it's an earlier model. So the question is....... do the earlier WR's & CR's use the same box as rancher says?

I had planned to carry out a complete rebuild of the spare engine but never got round to it but if there's a chance it has the wider ration box in that may give me the incentive

Could you tell me me which gear i need to be counting teeth on, top left or top right in the photo? I'm guessing top right?

Top right. It is part of the shaft.

Are the shift forks different between the early WR and CR transmissions?

No they are the same

The 2004 seems to be still available from the HVA dealer, at least in Europe.
