I am looking at picking up a new bike. The two best in my price range I found are an 06 Harley Sportster xl1200 with 22k and an 07 Honda cbr600rr with 20k. Both are the same price so that isn't an issue. Both should have decent reliability. I just can't decide if I want a cruiser or sport bike. I have ridden a sport bike before but never a cruiser. This season I have been riding my te310 and I really want something good on the road that I can take places. I may take two or so 300-400mile trips a year. The rest of my riding is around town and back roads. Any opinions are welcome. Thanks in advance.

I had an 05 Honda CBR600RR and was one of the best bikes for canyon carving. You can comfortably drape yourself over the tank and rip. But.... Had the most god awful seat. I traded it in for my Duc which had a better seat but didn't have the fine road manners of the Honda. I have never ridden an HD but in town it's all about seating position unless your young and can deal with back issues and cramped leg position, etc.... They are polar opposites. What kind of riding do you like best. A racer? or a Cruiser?

I am young, 20 going on 21 this coming week:cheers: I do like a racer. Which is why I am leaning toward the cbr. Miss taking turns on my old ninja. But at the same time I would like to see what all the Harley hype is about and try something new. I also have someone that would like to ride with me too which would be better on the Hd. It is such a tough decision. I wish I could just get both. I am going to check them out this weekend and hopefully pick one.

Tough call. I'd get the CBR since riding with a passenger is unsafe and you then have to answer to their parents if you ever go down and they get hurt.

either decide what type of riding you want to do (as those bikes are crazy different) or get a bike that will do both. Should be a lot of choices in that price range.

man, totally different bikes. personally i like a bike that is perhaps in between, as i prefer naked bikes that are upright seating position. much more comfortable than full on sportbikes but they still have the guts to handle and perform. you certainly need to take some test rides and figure out what you want first.
there are many many bikes out there at many different prices. it really isnt needed to do much compromising, you just have to know what you really want to do.
a kawasaki concours will tour very well with a set of bar risers. will also lug a passenger pretty decent, and they certainly have enough power!

it comes down to : do you want to be cool and ride an HD ? . OR do you want to own/ride a trouble free motorcycle for a long period of time? I work for a HD dealer and I would get the HONDA !!

I'd get a bike I could do both on. If I were to get another street bike I think i get a Triumph 675 Street Triple or a Yamaha naked type bike. I'm 56 now and had my share of sport bikes over the years from 600's to 1000's and they are fun but all have the long ride uncomfortable thing in common. Plus they MAKE you speed to have fun! jk. Good luck either way, be safe, and don't let the texters get you.

Get a Buell Ulysses, hopped up harly motor, SM type fun (wheelies / stoppies) and comfortable for 350 mile plus days. do it all bike you can pick up for cheap.
