Hi all, new to cafe husky and new to owning a Husqvarna. I recently purchased an 07 450 SMR that i think was neglected a little bit but I am hoping to bring her back to functioning properly with the help of all of you. During the test ride it seemed to lack power in comparison to my 02 CRF 450, I figured if i gave her a fist full of throttle the tire would come up but to no avail I tried clutching it and same thing. When the bike is not running and fuel is on it takes maybe 10 seconds for fuel to start dumping out of the bowl, I figured the float isn't correct? No blinkers on the rear wires there, blinkers up front are after market and non functional wires just hanging, brake light works off back brake only, headlight is on a toggle switch mounted inside the headlight housing. It has a vector trail tech speedo that says 1500 miles but very hard to believe. With all that being said I had to have it. So far..... Air filter replaced Oil and filter changed Pulled clutch cover and clutch looked/smelled smoked - new plates and springs on the way from Hall's. Hope this solves the lack in power? Rear blinkers on the way. If i locate and install an original speedo will the blinkers and headlight work as intended? I see all the original harnesses behind the headlight. Did these bikes come with a key? Any help is greatly appreciated and my apologies for the long post. Am an excited SMR owner! View attachment 79145
I'd do a leak down test first thing and make sure the engine is still in good condition. The SMR's are very picky bikes.
Be sure its a leak down test. The 450 has an auto decompression cam so a compression test wouldn't be useful.
6% on the leak down test. Something that was noticed in the clutch assembly was very large grooves on the hub from the steel clutch plates. So i just ordered the hub. The throttle was super slow to return once it was rolled on and then let go. I lubed the housing on the handle bars as well as the one down at the carb, the cables were also lubed. Throttle tube was also cleaned and lubed. Good as new.... The carb still leaks a little out of the overflow when the gas is turned on. I am thinking of replacing the main jet, what are your thoughts on that?
That's a great leak down number. The main jet wouldn't cause the float to over fill. The float needle / valve is likely worn (#42 in link below. Also see if #36 is replaceable on that carb. It isn't always). I would start by replacing that. I would also order a few extra jets, both replacement for current jetting and extra sizing. The link below is my go to for any jetting. I assumed the SMR has the FCR-MX carb but double check that. http://jetsrus.com/carburetor/carb_keihin_FCR-MX_carb_exploded_view_parts.html
Right on! thanks for the link.... I opened up a can of worms with this clutch, its a surflex slipper clutch. Everything I ordered from Hall's is a no go. Trying to contact these guys for parts should be fun they are in Italy and the website is horrible. Would you recommend going back to stock clutch?
I've never ridden with a slipper clutch, nor worked on one. But I don't think it would be that big of an issue to revert back to stock.
