Hey guys I am trying to decide which would be the better route to go with my exhaust. A full system or a slip on. Normally a full system is better but what are your thoughts?
Hi, It's my understand that cat is in the can. So just replacing the can gives you the best bang for you buck. I have not seen a chart to tell how much of a difference also replacing the header makes. Although, it would look cooler. I just replaced the can.
No real restriction on the headers. Another vote for replacing the can. Get a bung for the o2 sensor, and a resistor to switch the ignition to performance mode and you will have a much faster bike.
Husky did a pretty good job designing the head pipe and collector. You may be able to massage a small hp gain out of it but it will likely be over a narrower rpm range. The best bang for the buck is just to go with a slip on. Uptite and Leo Vince both make nice slip on units that are not obnoxiously loud under normal driving condition but have a serious bark when you're on the throttle hard.
I'll make an official announcement soon but I have all but solidified a deal with Barrett pipes. https://secure.barrettexhausts.com.au/ I have been running and testing their stuff for about 6 months and love it. I'm also very much considering building a down pipe Rally bike style setup. Let me know if there is interest in that. Also some input would be great. I'll make a separate post in this direction. I don't mean to post a sales call here just providing an option. This post shows our Motosportz branded Barrett pipe on my 610. http://www.cafehusky.com/forums/showthread.php?t=793 Also this on is a test on a husky DOHC bike... http://www.trailbikerallys.com.au/tests info/barrett muffler test/barret-test.htm thanks.
$325 for the muffler with the black can and red endcap. Not loud, great power gain, looks sweet IMHO. Email if your interested - motosportz@gmail.com We will have these for all Husky models soon and KTM/Yami etc. - Waiting on our spark arrestor approval.
Video... I rode Kelly's 610, it had a nice mellow sound at cruise and a nice bark when on it hard. Later,
It weighs a lot less than the stock can but that's not saying a lot as the stock can is a tank with the cat in it. Sound wise it is quieter than stock up to about 2/3rds throttle and when you open it up only slightly louder than stock but a real nice tone everywhere. This last summer I rode with a KTM990 and Buell XR12 and both commented on how good the muffler sounded. I'll try to do a vid soon. It is far from loud and obnoxious. I did many 200 plus rides this last summer and never had an issue with headache but assache for sure. Creeper is going to fix that for me. Me too.
I couldn't tell a weight difference by just holding them in my hands but the power gain was easy to notice.(mine was not a motosportz branded)
