I installed a new piston in my son's CR144 and I can't seem to figure out how the spring works on the power valve lever. It doesn't seem to load at all, and the lever just floats around. I ran the bike with the cover off, and when I rev the engine the lever does rise, and drops when I decrease throttle. I kept everything together when I removed the parts in fear of screwing it up. I'm just concerned that it's not functioning 100% because of the spring.

I've read some posts that mention spring tension; are they refering to the spring that's visible when you remove the cover or the spring that's in with the governor? I can move the levers up and down and feel no tension anywhere; would the spring in the governor be broken?

Here is a video Kelly made showing how the power valves function

The posts about adjusting the valves and preloading the spring are referring to the spring on the top that you can see in the video. If everything is connected and you can move the levers without any resistance something is wrong. The governor has a stiff spring that you should feel resisting when moving the bottom lever manually.

If you have the bottom lever disconnected then you should be able to move them with no resistance.

Did you remove the governor for any reason during your top end swap? If you didn't the governor is most likely fine. It is really a bullet proof design and I haven't heard of anyone having a spring issue. If you ran the tranny dry of oil it might cause a problem but the problems would show up elsewhere in the tranny/clutch first. Sounds like you have a power valve linkage issue. Is it slotted over the ends of the shafts correctly?

When I initially reassembled the motor there was no tension in the pv levers. After I ran the bike for a while I removed the cover to look at the pv levers and found tension on the levers. I ran the bike with the cover off and the levers rise and fall as they should. When I was taking the motor apart to replace the piston I may have partially pulled out the lower shaft which may have caused the loss of tension. Running the motor reloaded the tension, if that is possible. We'll see how it runs at the track this weekend.

HELLO WALLYBEAN. MY NAME IS LUCIANO, I AM FROM BRAZIL. I HAVE A HUSQVARNA WR 125CC 2006, AND I AM INTEREST IM INCREASE IT TO 165CC. DO YOU KNOW IF I CA FIND THE WHOLE 165CC KIT? CAN IT BE ASSEMBLED DIRECTLY IN MY ENGINE?

    THANKS A LOT

At the race track my son found that the bike was just not getting the top end power as he was last year. We removed the governor cover and found that the shaft with the teeth on one side was upside down with the teeth facing up. The teeth were not engaging with the spindle and that's why we were not getting any tension. I never rotated the shaft when we had the bike, therefore I assume the shop that rebuilt the bottom and top end last winter put it in upside down. There was also oil leakage around the power valve cover, since last winters rebuild. When I removed the cover I also realized that they put the gasket in backwards. When we put the shaft in correctly the bike ran great all weekend.
