So, I think I'm going to sell my 08 SM610 with 5k miles on it and a brand new engine. Do you guys think I should go ahead and break in the engine, or let the buyer break it in like they want to? Also, what do you think is a fair price for it? It has good tires on it, I opened up the airbox cover, de-catted the stock exhaust, removed the kickstand and clutch safety, removed the backfire screen,... can't really think of much else. The first motor blew up after a track day, ate the big end bearing. New motor is being installed as we speak (finally!) by the dealership.
I've been following your saga. I met Mountain Eagle recently and we even talked about what happened to you. If it were me as the potential buyer, I'd be happier thinking you did the break-in already. That way, I'd know you put a few hours on it and that it held together. Is the dealer offering you any warranty on their work? If so, is that transferrable or is it just late as I type this and I'm dreamin'?
The dealer is still trying to get in contact with Husky and see what they are willing to do about the warranty. My guess is that they never get a reply. The dealer called today and said the motor is in, the bike is ready to pick up, but the motor mount is still not in. They just put the other one back in that I had a friend make up. I asked if the warranty would be transferable... I was hoping to avoid buying more oil filters and stuff, but it probably would ease peoples minds if I put a bit of time on it. The warranty expired recently, and even though the bike has been in the shop or inoperable for well over half the year, I can't think there is any way they would extend the warranty. I'm hoping to get enough extra money out of the 610 to get dirt wheels for the DR-Z.
Did they rebuild the motor or put a new one in? I'd break it in......... so you just need a set of rims..... hmm I can swing that
They got a new crate motor from Italy. Crap, I hate breaking in a new bike. Lots of oil changes and work, no full power fun. I need enough left over to pay for dirt wheels after paying for the DR-Z. Hopefully enough above that for suspension re-do. I really really wish I knew that it would hold together now, but I don't have any faith in it anymore, and I plan on getting 5-600 miles away from home on top of a mountain. Can't afford for a bike to need maintenance or take a dump on me out there. I will miss the perfect FI, awesome gearing, and bountiful torque. You just got SM wheels anyhow. No one has told me how much they think its worth!

I can't give you a good idea for an asking price, but I can tell you I just got one brand new for $5,595. Hopefully that helps you with an upper boundary.
There are no TE's left in the warehouse but there are few SM's floating around and they are discounted, but asv's deal is not typical. Unfortunately dirtbikes (SM's included) depreciate very quickly. I'd guess the value at around $5000 to $5500 retail. This is the right time of year and there are very few used Huskys to be had. you should be able to get your price in the Denver market. But I promise, you will be disappointed with a DRZ after owning the Husky.
I owned one before the husky, and I now own another. I am very pleased with it- 3X3 and jetted it can keep up with the 610 stock. It is way more nimble around the track too- feels much lighter, and I feel like I'm sitting on the husky whereas I'm part of the suzuki. I think the tank is just too wide on the 610. I do really like the FI on the husky.
I think that I would be very pleased with the power if I got an exhaust, but I am going for a more long-lived approach. There is more to a bike than power. To me, the suzuki is more fun.
