Quick question - there are two wires that go to the license plate light. One yellow and one black. Can you tell me which one is the "power" wire - I assumed yellow....looking for a wire to draw some power from that turns on with ignition. THANKS!!

I don't remember which is which, but they are in the wiring diagram in the owner's manual... but... the light doesn't turn on with the ignition, the engine has to be running.

Thanks - on with engine is fine. I never got an owners manual with the bike. I do have the multi-lingual shop manual....I will try to dig thru that to find it. If anyone knows, thanks for the help!!

Edit - checked all the schematics in the shop manual and nothing showing for wiring to the license plate light.

Is there a hot wire to the taillight I could tap in to and if so which color?

    This is what I’ve wrote when I did my back LED strip;

    Plate; blue - yellow
    Run/brake light; blue - green - yellow
Left face blinker; blue - light blue
Right face blinker; blue - red
    -------------------------------------
    Blue - ground
    Yellow - on/half
    Green - on/full
    Light blue - left blinker
    Red - right blinker
    -------------------------------------
Ground goes; run/brake light --> plate --> right blinker --> left blinker

    Hope it helps

    Thanks.
I built an accessory distribution box with a relay. Done it with other bikes and no issues. But this one isnt getting power. A simple 8-post dist box with a jumper on one side for ground and a jumper on other side for power. Fused line to battery from power side and a line from neg battery post to ground side and switched power from relay out to the yellow wire to the license plate light.
I'll mess around with it more.

Here is all I'm trying to do. Maybe since the license plate light on the 610 isnt switched power but rather on with engine, I need to find a source that is switched power with the key??

Generally the brake light works with the engine off & key on. Maybe turn key on and use the brake and see if the light comes on?

I hope the brake light works on your bike, because the power commander autotune module instructions which I helped with would be wrong.

Just went down to the garage to check it
Key on, motor off gave me running light front and back and a half ass plate light, not sure what’s that all about but I didn’t wanted to crank it inside to further investigate :excuseme:

Not on the 08 610. Engine must be running for brake to work.
I did a similar junction block installation, and I went off the parking headlight thing.

Thanks guys!! Yup - re-checked mine - key on, license plate light comes on...should be able to use that yellow wire to the plate light as switchable power for the relay. Weird......maybe the relay is bad....doubtful.

Well hopefully my memory is bad and the instructions for the autotune module says to connect to the license light then. :)

Well, got her figured out. The damn scotchlok connector I used to connect to the plate light wire wasnt pushed thru enough to penetrate the wire. She's working now. Thanks for all the suggestions guys!!!

Picked up the 610 about 10 days ago.

Been doing a bunch of work to her to get her up to par - junction box, heated grips, GPS, fuel pump zip tie sender unit (mine was actually off when I removed the fuel pump), removed the big alum exhaust shield and wrapped the pipe, installed skid plate, BMP case saver.

Have owned a ton of bikes - most recently KTM 990 Adventure, a 640 Adv, 525 EXC and KLR 650. This 610 just seems freaking incredible - a real do it all, which is exactly what I've been looking for. A few more mods and I should be done.

The easy way - Tap into the "City" light. The little bulb in the side of the headlight housing. I use it for my GPS and to turn on the low beam headlight relay in my Lynx fairing.
