kickstand is way too short, turn the bars and the rear wheel comes off the ground. also the battery cables must run between underside of seat and the battery(tape on battery from dealer says "SM 610 2/24") to reach the terminals, any advice? think I got the kickstand along with the battery from a SM610...
Hello 04: After my last ride where I got a flat and had to pile rocks to get the rear wheel off the ground so that I could change it, your kickstand sounds like just the ticket..... You can have someone weld a piece on to lengthen it. If you do that, I'd try for an overall longer stand than the stock TE610 and I'd go for a larger plate on the end for soft soil. let me know if you need some measurements of the stock stand. Motosportz has a cool looking stand that will fit the 610's if you cut off the stock mounting tabs. Make sure that you trim the extension off of the bolt that attaches the stand to the frame. That disables the auto retract feature and keeps the bike from falling over when the stand inappropriately retracts... My '08 TE610 has the battery leads running across the top of the battery under the seat as you mention. The seat doesn't rest on the battery so the cables don't chafe and I haven't had any problems. The parts manual doesn't show a different battery for the SM so as long as you have the stock battery that shouldn't be the problem. Is your battery turned around? That could result in the cables not reaching the terminals easily. Mine has the negative terminal on the right side of the bike and the cables reach OK. If you add additional wires to the battery, I found it best to mount the positive wires to the fuse holder that is slightly in front of the battery, lower down on the left side of the bike, under the side cover. That holder is attached to the frame, comes off easily, and I made the connections at where the lead from the battery reaches the holder. After the connection I wrapped the exposed metal in electricians tape to avoid shorts. When I tried to connect additional leads to the postive terminal of the battery I couldn't get the rubber boot to cover them well and I was worried about a short. Howard L. Snell
