Hi there anyone who might be able to help. on my TE 449 09, when Landing jumps (I know its an enduro but still) the clutch leaver falls forward and the pin jams it open, I then have no clutch annoying and dangerous. Someone told me this was a common problem with this model? If this is true has anyone out there got any ideas on a fix??? Or a replacement part?? Thanks.
There should be a little light spring sitting inside the casting of the original lever (It isn't joined to it). It pushes the lever back towards to clutch master cylinder. If the levers have been off, or you have aftermarket lever, it may not be there or fallen out..... I don't know if it is available as a separate part, or with the lever. Have a look in your PDF spares manual (also avail. on-line)
I'm pretty sure the spring is included on the ARC levers. I will have to check on that. (fyi this is for a 2009 450, not 449)
Ok had a look spring is there but now I am confused, more so. Tinken, you said that leaver was off a 450. When I bought this bike i was told the capacity was actually 449 but everyone just calls them 450. Did they produce both then? And if so how can i tell which I have? The leaver in the photo with smokin on it is the same as the one on my bike. Is it possible then that it is a 449 and someone has fitted the wrong leaver in the past causing my problem??
These are the two bikes. TE449 2011 onwards to 2013 - (the big gay muffler in this pic comes in a box for Aus, there is an Akrapovic one supplied instead) TE450 - up to 2010
Yea it's the 450 100%, cool as, good to know. Thanks for the info. This is the first bike I've had for about 5 years so I'm not up to scratch with whats been happening. Anyway back to it you said you have replaced your levers to "Sunline" do you think it was worth it do you recommend this and what sort of cost am i looking at? I should mention I haven't put barkies on it yet but do intend to (funds low about to go on a trip to NZ). So this may help stop it anyway do you think??
The TE449 is the second bike I've fitted Sunlines to. I removed the heavy factory supplied Barkbusters off my WR450 part way through owning it. It really helped when steering in tight tracks having less weight on the 'bars. Obviously that meant dropping it may break a lever, so I got the Sunlines. When I got the TE449, it came with plastic handguards, so I tracked down the right replacement levers to suit it too. They didn't have a listing for my Husky, but KTM used the same Brembo clutch & brake master cylinders on different model bikes & listed them for those (one-4st, one-2st) They are a really well engineered lever, they fold away from the bar if dragged backwards & fold up & down if hit from above or below (To 90deg!!). As for cost, if you replace 2 or 3 normal levers a year or are unlucky enough to break the master cylinder, they will pay for themselves AND you still get to have the light steering feel of no barkbusters!!
Well that sounds like the the best option, when I get back from NZ and cash flow resumes this is the way I'll go. Cheers for your help, much appreciated.
No worries. I think that they were well priced if compared to breaking 3 or 4 levers or a master cylinder. If your bike isn't listed, the ones you want will likely be on some KTMs, they use the same master cylinders (Clutch should be Magura & I think you'll have Brembo brakes). I ended up looking at standard lever catalog pictures to compare. Have fun.
make sure the pin is adjusted just tight enough, not too short, not too long. IF that doesn't work, Then check the spring and lengthen it either by stretching slightly or adding little thing to sort of boost it farther out of it's fitting. Your lever should now not go out all the way, or at least be very difficult to come out all the way.
Yea cheers motomambo, I just got back from New Zealand so bikes are not on the agenda for a bit. Got heaps of work pilled up. But i will give that a go until i can afford the sunlines.
