250-500cc 09 wr300 indicators(rear)

while on my last trail ride i managed to destroy my left rear(tree stole it i guess) indicator and the exhaust melted the right one. i've been looking at flush-mount ones for road bikes and wanna try fitting something that won't suffer from the same issues, however all of the road ones i look at are 1watt and the stock wr ones are 10watt. what is the easiest way to overcome this difference?
i don't want to spend money on things that will be a pain so i'm not sure whether i should go the new relay route or try fitting resistors....
