I considered it since slavens raves about it but I chickened out and chose dominator at 50:1. I actually called Amzoil and asked them, they said don't run the weed Wacker oil in a ktm 2 stroke. Amzoil tested Dominator in a 300 in house so they safely recommend dominator. Been happy with Dominator for a couple years now. Ymmv

If you are trying to get it to smoke less then you need to go to a lower grade oil . One with a lower flash point .
    Not less oil .

Amsoil Interceptor has a lower flashpoint then Dominator and keeps exhaust less oily when in putt mode. Some trials guys use Saber @100:1 but that is a very different type of use than an enduro or mx bike.

Saber is JASO FD Rated, And stated in my owners manual under Standard/classification for Engine oil/2-stroke use JASO FD only use high grade 2 stroke oil of a reputable brand. JASO FD is a classification for a 2 stroke engine oil that is specifically developed or the extreme demands of racing. Thanks to first rate synthetic esters and specially designed additives, superb combustion is achieved even under extreme operating conditions.

big change from back when I use to mix 32:1 in 85 and 89 and 2000 when I owned Honda CR's

Seen the Slaven's racing video on oils..

I too just saw the Slavens video, then read some threads about it on KTMtalk. My purpose or goal is to be able to carry one small bottle of it (3.5oz) on longer rides. Top off the tank with fresh fuel, add the bottle of oil, and start riding again. 3.5oz in 2.5 gallons is roughly 90:1 ratio. So close enough for my needs.

I'm heading out to southern Utah soon for 3 days of riding and will be using it there. I'll report back on whether I blow up my bike or not!

oil thread of the premix type. hundreds of ideas hundreds of opinions, even variables from the experts.
me personally maxima k2 at 50:1 with safe proper jetting spec, all dry, but black out back, plugs come out with nice dark tan insulator color (safe to the slight rich side), bike pulls like a tractor.

The real key is to pick a quality oil and stick with it.... Don't switch every time the bottle runs out, many oils don't mix right....

I guess it all depends what your trying to achieve but I seriously don't see the point.... I want oil.... Oil is your friend....

Ive been using amsoil dominator at 50:1 but saw KTM recommends anywhere from 50:1 to 100:1. Gonna try maxima out all ive ever run was amsoil see if I can tell a difference.

Saber @ 100:1 works great in chainsaws and weed eaters, but I run 80:1 and have an old saw and weed eater that still start right up and run great after a decade of abuse. On the Saber bottle it says use more oil for racing or commercial use. Choosing pre mix ratio because of convenience doesn't seem like a good idea to me. And since AMSoil has Dominator and Interceptor don't see the point in running Saber in my bikes.
Switched to Dominator @ 50:1 in a fresh 165. 35 hours in now and no loss of compression or performance, minimal smoke and spooge. I don't putt or trail ride it much, WFO 90% of the time. Will be interesting to see the wear when I freshen it up next.

Take 2 small bottles?!! Not sure how keen I'd be on running anymore than 1/4-1/2 throttle at 90-100:1

I have been running it at 80:1. Absolutely no issues.
Ran it on my 2015 te250.
Great fuel economy and no engine issues.
After start up, while running, guys behind you can barely tell you are running a 2 stroke.
My cousin put over 200 hours on his 2015 250xc as an A enduro racer and also had no issues.
I plan on running it in my 2017 te300 as well.
    Would not hesitate to recommend.

Amsoil dominater at 40-1 in my wr 165 with Lectron carb over 165 hours runs great. Did top end at 100 hours and rings were just in spec and piston looked great and no carbon build up. Also run it in my 250sx on a snowbike which is high demand riding and also so far compression has stayed the same. I also run 1/4 c-12 vp race gas in my mix not sure if that helps but both bike have compression over 200 psi so can not hurt.

The outboard motor manufacturers had a 100-1 oil mix battle years ago. I think OMC started it then Merc jumped on board to keep pace. It was to reduce cost and spew less unburned oil out the exhaust. Dont remember any ill effects from it. Everyone has long since developed variable ratio oil injection systems that idle at 100-1 and go to 50-1 at higher speeds. Now its all direct injection that uses much less oil overall

Never been keen to run my bikes anything higher than 60:1 on the 360 and 50:1 on the 250....you probably could run them @80:1 all day riding at 1/4-1/2 throttle but l also fear when you hit the fire trails you sudden go from 1/4 throttle to WFO...painful memories of seizures.

Anyway, DI oil injection on the Beta is a marvel, a mate rode 6hrs with us and after two tanks all his bike used was like 10-15ml of oil:eek:

    19L(2 tanks) for 10-15ml of oil?!! That's a fair bit leaner than 100:1-like 1900:1!!!

Run what ya think you should. More oil was the norm back in the day for better ring seal under max RPM . Trying to run less seems the modern environmental thing to do. I run 36:1 on a 11 year old bike. The jetting is perfect for what I ride. I could run 50:1 just to say I did, but I'd have to screw around with jets. ME, I like to ride.
