  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

13' txc310r pop stalls

Peteyw

Husqvarna
My txc310r was pop stalling once in a while but was very hard to restart when hot.
Had the valves adjusted which really helped with hot starts.
Now it stalls almost every time I roll back on the throttle... Also backfires on decel.
Bike runs great until it heats up. Any idea on what could be causing this.

Sounds lean, so let me throw out some ideas:
  • It might be an intake manifold leak somewhere (also make sure if you have a vacuum port it's capped good).
  • Doesn't sound like a fuel injector problem, unless the injector itself is letting air in around it- but I'm definitely not a FI guy, so maybe someone else will chime in.
  • Just for grins, check the cylinder exhaust/head pipe interface.
  • Burnt valves or broken seat might have similar characteristics; kinda doubt it though.
  • (rings: naw, you'd be burning oil, not sucking air)
  • Lastly in the lean category, it could be a head gasket leak; but I doubt it. Coolant coming in or oil/combustion by-products going out are the more likely symptoms (as opposed to air going in)

If it's electrical, it could be a whole slew of things: a component (like the coil) has a heat problem, an intermittent short (eg, wires being rubbed) or even water/steam under the plug cap (check the plug for tightness also). OlderHuskyRider has a great thread going that teaches the neophyte how to debug/analyze a problem methodically (which wasn't his goal but in essence is the result). Found it: OHR's Dual Sporting Thread ...it's been around for more than 4 years and is still one of the best reads. If the fuel pump or injector has an electrical problem, it might look like the symptoms you are observing. Do a search on air or water temperature sensors; seems to me that one of these things caused similar problems.

I wonder if the cold start knob would affect the situation for the better? Actually, I don't know what the knob is doing- hopefully someday I'll run across an explanation of it's operation.

good luck. I see you just joined today, so there is going to be a little lag on your post time (patience- I think the site is under some kinda spam attack). Also, if you happen to find a solution don't forget to post it up- it's how everybody learns (especially if you've done something, uh, "stupid"- please let us know. We've all done something in that category).

have you opened up the exhaust? pulled out the cat converter in the midpipe or does the TXC not have this?

So I reset the tps and it seems to have cured 80% of the problem.
Maybe I need a richer map to correct this completely.
Has anyone used the jd tuner on the redheads. Their website claims it can correct flame out.

Either JD or PCV. I have PCV maps I generated with stock pipe minus cat if you want to go the PCV route (based on open map 3).

Thank you all for the help. I reset the ecu by disconnecting the battery and draining the coil. This made a huge difference in the bike stalling every other time I rolled on the throttle.
The bike was at a reputable shop for a valve adjustment and oil leak. So it's not something they did. Always had pop stall issues.
I think whatever map I have is too lean in the low rpms. I'm trying to work that out with the tps adjustment I read about in another thread. Stock was .58vdc. I set it to .71vdc as recommended but that's way too rich. It barely idles there. I'm going to try to find a setting somewhere in between. Going on a ride this weekend. Hope I can get it worked out. It really sucks stalling every 20 min and it not restarting.
