1979 Pursang 370 ,mk12 model 220. matching numbers, lots of new parts,have most of the originals engine not rebuilt but runs great. For sale in the central Florida area, posting for a friend he is asking $3000.00 for it . pm me if interested .
nice balanced looking bike..im betting it handles well? ive never rode a taco before.. is the kickstand on the right side??? that might be worse than what side a kicker is on (altho i have no preference)..at least most bikes ive ever seen lean to the left..
Right side kickstand? ...are you looking at the torque arm for the brake drum maybe? race bikes usually don't have a kickstand. actually, at tech inspection in the late '60s early '70s it was common to see kickstands wired/taped up with tons of tape around the various sharp protuberances that were always trying to kill you on early bikes- eg. non-folding foot pegs. and thank god they got rid of rubber pegs by about, oh... say '73 or so. Nice looking Pursang. I didn't realize they ditched the Amal for a Mikuni- great. Weird for a '79 era bike- I thought they had more suspension. it looks like 7-8" in the back and you might get 7" out of those Betors maybe. I could've swore bikes started having TOO much suspension by '79 (ie 14-15"). The mind is a terrible thing, I guess. Tell your buddy there's a minor flat spot on the rear rim that might come out pretty easy with loosened spokes and a soft mallet. maybe.
up until they went single shock, husky always had kickstands on their mx bikes..but for sure, i can see why they were taken off. save weight and keep them from flopping. on the bultaco, whats the bracket ahead of the brake arm stay? appears to be empty, with nothing in it, but looked like a kickstand bracket, lol
well, weight-savings: yes. but the tech-inspection thing was all about safety- yours and the rider you crashed with. if you had a kickstand, it had to be taped up. no broken lever ends either. there was just an insane number of hard, sharp, metal points sticking out of the bike in that early era (pre-'75) which had to be removed or taped. I'll be damned if your mystery bracket doesn't look like a kickstand pivot. ...and look how far the counter shaft sprocket is from the swingarm pivot; no wonder a 12t sprocket was not recommended in those days, the chain would probably saw through the swingarm on both sides before the start of the 3rd moto (eh- I guess they were at 2 moto races by then). I can't remember if Bultacos had fiberglass body works or if that was just Ossa and maybe Montessa tanks. hmmmm.
if my memory serves you can flip guts all around in most buls left or right shift and drive i think that a collection of parts and thats a eitherside swingarm and im sure it a little short legged i bet if you google image that you will see a different bike
It may well be as Bultaco and Ossa pretty much got decimated in the Spanish economic crash of 1980. Montesa was left as the only surviving motorcycle manunfacturer only because Honda bought into Montesa to sell their mopeds in Spain
wow- if those two different Bultaco's don't illustrate the placement of the counter shaft sprocket for long-travel suspension, I don't know what would.
You did not need to flip the internals around as the shift shaft went through the engine allowing a shift lever to be mount either right or left.
The side stand was a square pipe which slotted into that square hole. The tanks and covers were plastic by that time. Bultaco never upgraded much with the motors until nearly the end then it was to late. My mk7 (1974) was the same as that 79 no reeds even .
What do you guys think about his price? I realize its different when you can actually see it in person but give some opinions. Assuming it runs like it should and sounds as should .
when I see a price like $3000, I'm thinking the owner wants $2750 and might settle for $2500. I don't know the bike or the market but that doesn't seem outlandish to me... and it's easier to adjust the price down than it is to raise it. He might find the guy that won his first race on that model. good luck. ps- you can delete or edit your post if you're not on probation.
