I put a distance washer on the end of the countershaft when I put the cases together and everything was bound up.
I put the shaft with all the gears in a zip-lock bag when I took it out and then transfered the pieces onto a rod as I inspected them.
Don't know how I got it out of place, but it belonged between to gears.
    All good now.

    Hi T,
It's an Acerbis fender. I got the fender from Husky parts.com. He lists it for the 85-88 XC/CR.
I liked the racy look of it along with the front fender.
I just cut it to fit up under the rear of the seat, Joe\'s 390 Ready to Race 006.jpg like the 79 fender did.

Amazing how a fender can make the bike look altogether different and cool at the same time... kinda reminds me of the back end of a YZ250 smoker . Good Call!

    I like it :notworthy::eek::applause:

    Hi Guys,
Thanks for the comments, they are all very much appreciated.
It was my humble pleasure to bring it back to life and to give my son a chance to enjoy vintage bikes, the way I did.
We need the younger guys to keep vintage racing alive and to preserve these bikes for future generations to enjoy.

I keep seeing little details ( yellow fuel lines) to match the yellow number plates... good numbers by the way.. are they preprinted on backgrounds or did you lay them up by hand?

Numbers are pre-printed, fuel line is tyvek.
John you win! How was your motor?
I had to heli-coil the drain plug and replace the crank.
Yea, that's my 67 Lemans in the background. Not a GTO, but has a GTO drive train, 400 ci with a turbo 400 trans, 3.73 tru-trac and GTO interior. bird.jpg .
My son got married in April this year and sold his 73 Firebird we built together. I wanted to kill him, but I admire him for doing what he had to do.

    Ron,
I got mine with NO carb & cable, blown shocks, bent front forks, top end had low compression, 78 seat which won't work, no plastic.

Now the good news, bottom end was tight, fairly nice tank (dent free), new top end, ebay carb, & she runs great. took me 2 years to find
    the correct seat,though.

Enjoy :D it as there getting harder to find

    Ron,

Wow, really nice job. That is poster material. I have a 79 390 I would like to restore the same way. What did your rear shocks come off of? I'm trying to think off the top of my head...they are 16 3/4 in. length to match the original Ohlins?

    Thanks for the nice comment.
I have an 82 swingarm on it with 17.25" Ohlins.
Notice my shocks mount on the side of the swingarm vs on top like stock 79.
    So 16-3/4" is probably correct.
    Where you located in Calif?

    Ron,

Ah, yep...just noticed the shock position after you mentioned it. Thanks for the good info.
I'm in the Sacramento area. Last year I was riding my 390 at Prairie City SVRA (thats where the Hangtown national track is located)
and it was really interesting to talk to some of the younger kids and hear their comments on a bike they have never seen before. They
all thought it was pretty cool after I gave them a short history lesson that Husqvarna used to make more than chainsaws and weed wackers.

That's the way we bought it, MM02471 frame number. Came with the rear fender bolted up under the seat and also had a spring loaded chain tensioner.
Somebody had to have changed the swingarm though, it has 17.25" Ohlins shocks mounted on the side of the arm, definately not 79.
I switched to the 40mm forks, had 35's.
Maybe it was a late 79 pre 80 frame. Don't know?
