I am helping a friend get his bike going. The bike will bump start consistently but is extremely hard to kick start. Using a cheap spark tester from harbor freight -

    I get a very dim light ever 7 - 10 kicks.
I have replaced ignition systems on my early Yamahas 1976 DT 400, 1975 MX 250, with great success, and was wondering if it would improve the ease of starting for the CR 390? Maybe there is a better solution.
Also there seems to be a few different kits for this year and model-

Does anyone know the correct kit?
The side of the current flywheel reads - 0613006 and the front reads 295841
    Thank you

You should have the "big shaft" crank stub. Check with the flywheel off, it should be 20mm
From what I can see they only offer a kit with lighting. You don't have to connect the lights !
    Kit 71 52 799 AC
    or 71 52 799 DC
There is better information on the old web site here https://www.powerdynamo.biz/deu/systems/lists/husqvarna.php

They list 1977-1981. The explanation as to where to measure the crank taper is linked in above.
I run the above kit on my 1978 390WR. I also run the small shaft kit on my 1978 390 Auto.
Brilliant piece of kit. Easy to fit, instructions that answer all your questions and a quality that surpasses a certain Electrex brand !

Two Electrex ignitions for my 510’s, two failures. Back to the SEM!
