1982 430CR

I just ordered a CR transmission for a 430CR build I am about to start. Would there be any value in creating a 430CR prototype along the Grossi bike lines or is the preference for the production 82 430CR. I have to know in the event I would be forced to part with it after completion.

I'd like to build my 430cr to the pro factory specs too or as close as I can get it.

The Grossi '83 preproduction prototype he rode in the '82 nationals was a 500, others rode Pro Circuit 470 kit bikes but I think Sugar Bear only rode a 500. For sure his '83 prototype was a 500. Personally, I prefer the '82 rear suspension, the '83-'84 is difficult to get the right spring rate because of the leverage ratio.

I am well aware of the fact that Grossi's bike was a stroked up 430 but there was a 250 prototype made for anyone knows initial chassis testing could have been done with a 430 while the 470 was being developed, Besides, I love the maroon tank I have lying around so it will get a good home one way or another

The 250 was for Kris Bigelow. I like the idea of the '83 style chassis with the silver frame and '82 tank, several others have done it and I think it looks great. I love the 430 also, so I was not trying to down the idea, just pointing out Sugar Bear never rode one.

I am aware of that. As the only CR frame I have is an 83 that is the genesis of the idea. To build a true 82 I would have to trim down a WR frame and I really hate the idea of that unless I have a spare depending how the engine supply works out. I got an 83 WR frame from huskydoggg 3 years ago so my plan for that is to pull the rake in 2 degrees. I plan to put my 430WR engine in that as I finally got the correct exhaust for it last year. I plan to get another 430WR head & cylinder and resleeve it with the 400WR sleeve as it can be bored for 430 pistons after you run out of 400 oversizes

I might consider it. I just got the CR transmission today and I got grilled about that. Was told "No more bike parts until the car and truck are fixed". I have been watching it on eBay for several months. I was looking for some other parts and checked my watched item. I saw the price was cut from $89 to $44 with free shipping. Need to get shift drum and forks for it. Is the CR primary gears different from the WR or are the gear set different reduction between 250 and 430?

Also, after looking at the CR gear and shaft set. it looks to have come from a very low hour engine as the gears look new but the shafts look at least seasoned.

LOL....I know THAT feeling. I just bought a house in April and around February I was riding at one of my normal spots on the '82 430WR. A guy came up, which I know we are all used to, I figured he wanted to talk about the bike. Instead, he said "Hey, do you want another one of those, but the "desert" model, really cheap?". Uhhh....yes. My Fiancee rides and she was there to overhear that conversation. He gave me his buddy's phone number and I called him the next day. My fiancee heard this conversation also and said "You are not going to buy that motorcycle are you?" "Oh no honey, we need to buy a house first". He only wanted $800 for a complete running '82 430XC, how could I NOT buy it??? She still doesnt know I bought it and I did buy the house so maybe by the time she notices it in the herd it wont matter.

Once you have a herd, what is one more. Sort of like how the 78 390WR ended up in my herd. I got 3 frames from the backlot of my friendly former trial champion that rode national enduro back in the day with John Penton and many others. I got a 78 airbox with the 78 Auto frame I bought for my HL500 build. Wheels, forks, and remote Ohlins. So by the time I got the 390WR engine and exhaust from Ruwfo, I have 80% of a complete bike laying around in inventory.

Now try to find time to get it all together before I really get too old to play.

I have my silverware lined up for the front end now. I have the forks that came with the 83 250CR frame I am building on along with a set of 82 lower sllders that need the gold re-done. This way I have coverage for either option . The sliders from the 83 250CR are Swedish blue.
