1983 Husky 250 CR

I picked this very nice 1983 Husqvarna 250 CR up in May and am almost done restoring it. The bike looked good when I first picked it up, but as soon as I started tearing it down I found the filter was dust, the forks had no oil in them, the clutch had a home made case lever on it, the front bearings had a hitch in their giddy up, all the cables were terrible and the carb needed help in the way of a rebuild. Most of the detail parts were added and a mixture of amsoil and gasoline 50:1 and she fired up on the 2nd kick. The piston is scored but the bike runs great - looking at changing the piston after tear down. Also it leaks a little trans fluid on the clutch side put bel-ray 80W in it about 1600cc. and put bel-ray 10W 450cc in the front forks. I really could not find much on capacities on either.

I just had the tank repainted and will put new stickers on it - I have never owned a Husky in the past but a lot of other brands including all the Japanese brands and a Bultaco Pursang. I am so excited to get this 33 year old barn find running and can't wait until I can take it to the desert and put it through its' paces. This bike is going to be a rider not a looker. Now I know what I was missing out on.

In their day. they were only ridden by Husqvarna diehards and usually finished behind several Japanese bikes in the 250 class in motocross. They are very popular in vintage racing because they were the last holdouts about transitioning to liquid cooling, single shock rear suspension, and disc brakes making them competitive against the Japanese bikes that last met those qualifications.

personally, i have never cared for the belray gearsaver..i do think their air filter oil is the best tho..
