    Hi Guys,
I have the 83 XC 250 with the WR frame and it has the underslung frame loop. I am considering removing to aid; (a) Sitting on bike stand (instead of falling off); and (b) I would like to install a bashplate under motor.

It does not appear to be structural, but would offer some bracing for left hand side perimeter frame. Quite surprised there is not a cross piece at rear. Guess engine does that anyway.
Quite a number of bikes have removed anyway from what I can ascertain.

Thoughts comments and thankyou in anticipation of responses.

the cr does not have one, so it must be at least a lil ok. they do work well for going over logs or rocks, kind of like a boat keel

I vote no zaw zall , just add 2 pieces of ply wood to your bike stand and leave the middle open for the bar to sit down into.

If you remove it, do it surgically so if you should change your mind or someone wants the piece afterward, it can be welded on easier

If you ride in the woods, leave it on :applause: , cracking your center case on a rock is not pretty. I've seen it happen  .

The bash plate goes under the frame & over the center support were it does the most good :applause: so you don't have to remove it to install
    the plate .

I just drilled (2) 1" holes in my skid plate & cut between them to make a slot for the center tube when I made my 1/4" thick alum. skid plate. Sits pretty flat on a stand now.

I use a 4"x4" x 20" long with two pieces of 4"x 3/4" thick x 9" long. I nail them to the 4"x4" leaving a space in the center for the center tube. I put this block on a milk crate.. It works awesome.

you do use the bar to skid over rocks and stuff a bit and a special part no 556743-b can be obtained by reading the posts above to sit the bike on:p

I only ever cut it out of a frame I had no intention of using myself at least for a Husqvarna. The plan was to stick a TT500 engine into it anyway. I may put one into a spare 86 single shock frame too :)

Thanks guys, I like the idea of the plate with a section cut out. Will look at something like this.

    thanks
