1984 CR 500 kickstand

The kickstand was cut off of my bike by one of the previous owners. I would like to have a kickstand. I was thinking of fabricating my own. Can one of you that still has a kickstand get some measurements for a baseline for me. Overall length, shaft diameter,pivot bolt size. Also if you don't mind taking pictures, I could use those also.

Does the cr model even have the stuff welded to it for the kickstand to fit into? I would expect it to accomidate an 8 mm bolt like my xc stuff. If you have to weld on the swingarm I would just get an xc swingarm as it would be quite hard to weld onto it without the allignment of the rear where the axle goes ending up in a new location.

I'll try to get a pick this eve. I have a 83 500XC. I wish we could get someone with a job shop (Husky T)! to make a clamp on kickstand (swingarm). I have a couple that the mount has been cut off of also.

Welding on Husky frames. My ML/MK workshop manual states an 80K welding wire for wire feed welding. Best is either oxy-acet or TIG. It brings the temp up slower and extends cooling time which is crucial for weld shrinkage reduction/prevention. On a kickstand mount wire welding with a 70K mild steel wire would be fine. I would just pre-heat a little which also cleans the steel better. Weld a small area, then another to avoid too much heat in that area.

iv had great results using standard C #30 wire in my mix gas welder, keep in mind that Husky kick stands are a POS anyway, and made to hold the bike, not the bike and a lard butt rider lol.
i made a patch that repairs the blown out kick stand bracket you see on most 77 and up Huskys...dont get me started on the single shock POS stands they used...gawd...
they fanally got it right in 91...

The single shock models have aluminum swingarms and the lug for the kickstand is bolted to the left side .If you checks Halls for the parts catalog you will see what I mean. My 85 and 85 400 single shocks have similiar but different brackets

I bet Utah Sportscycle (ricochetoffroad.com) could help you out. They've made the best skid plates in the world for 30 yrs and I know they do clamp on side stands. Don Gibbs, the owner, was the only Husky dealer around here back then, he knows the bike.
