1987 430 enduro disc brake question

Bike is 1987 430 Enduro with 2 piston Brembo front caliper.
Pulled from barn after sitting ~ 25 years.

Front brake was mush at the lever...was able to flush out all old fluid...new fluid now...properly bleed...pushed back pistons a few times to free them up...and now front brake lever has good firm feel...

However...it seems like the pads are dragging on the disc...takes a bit of effort to turn the front wheel...it will not spin freely. I have NOT ridden the bike yet with this condition...it's still a work in progress.

Is this likely the square shaped "seals" that pull the pistons back a bit when the lever is released?
If so...is a generic Brembo 28mm seal kit (listed on Ebay of course...) what is needed?

Does it spin freely with the caliper off the disc? Might be wheel bearings. I have never had to rebuild my caliper & I've owned this bike about 25 yrs. I had a 87 back in the day but the brakes are the same on my 88 430. Sorry I'm not answering your question directly. Good luck with it.

have not had to rebuild any of mine either! should spin feely, yours could be really sludged up or in need of seals. should be really no drag tho. check that the caliper floats on the pin.

true if the caliper does not float it will drag one side

Are the pistons being sucked back all the way inside the caliper enough to release the pad Friction. If the pistons are dry they may have Friction so the master cylinder can pull they fully away from the disc to release the brake enough. I open the boot on the piston and put a few drops of brake fluid on them to lube the square o ring and piston. Then push it back and forth a few times so it's lubed.

My '88 250 does the same, I'm about to dismantle the caliper and check it out, i'll let you know what I find.

The pins! Of course! Why did I not check them before?
Turns out the top one was fine, but the lower one was binding...causing the caliper to fail to self-center on the disc...and the disc to bind on one of the pads.
Chucked the pin in a drill (sorry...no lathe...) and polished it up a bit with some fine emery paper.
Lubed both with some caliper pin grease left over from my SUV's brake job.

Seems to have done the trick...wheel doesn't exactly spin like top...but makes at least 2 revs when I give it a spin.

Clean up and service work is almost done.
I'll be very careful...and wary of the front brake until I'm SURE it's not still dragging...on it's test ride...

Then onto Ebay...it's a bit too much for me to handle in our AHRMA MA Region XC races...
