1987 Husky 430cr

Hi everyone,
I just aquired a 1987 430 cr 5 speed in great condition but can't find anything on it so I was hoping you guys could help me out. I wanted to know the hp of this bike and how good it is.I had a 86 wr400 for a while several years back and it was a great bike I should have kept it but didn't.Thanks for any info.

While I don't recall the hp or how they rated with the mags of the day, I for one, would sure love to see some pics of the bike.

You may also be able to swap the trans over to a 6 spd if you prefer, without much trouble.

If the 87 is like previous 430's, I know alot of guys almost seem to prefer it's power output, over that of the 500's. Forget the specific descriptions of why.

If you think the 86 you had is/was great then this one is great too. It has the same crank and what seems like the same cylinder but not bored out as much/thicker iron liner. There are some chassis differences. They are vintage bikes using vintage technology (iron sleeve and long rods holding the top end on, relatively small solid axles, etc) intended for the original purchaser to go after trophies.

I suggest you try out the search function on this or other similar forms. This site also puts similar choices near the bottom which often are pertinent.

I have owned 2 430 Crs since the early 90s and can tell you hp is in the high 40s stock, it can be brought up alot more with some porting, carb, and pipe. How are the WP 4054 Forks on it? They have been known to crack around the axel. The 430 will pull to the moon but without the vibes the 500 had it is still a shaker. They have been many times when I'm on the pipe and I'm seeing double!They are great bikes Ilove mine.

Really nice looking bikes and if I was looking for an Evo bike, this is one I would love to own. There aren't many Evo Huskies being raced in the UK so it would be a really nice "different " bike to have.

I am curious. Is this essentially the same engine as the 81/82 430 but with watercooling or are there a lot more differences? Is the bore and stroke the same and the port specs for example?

The short answer is yes it is the same engine. The longer answer is the engine case has a different insert at the rear and a little more reinforcing in that area if you look at the cases (from the inside). The bore and stroke is the same but the water cooled ones have larger ports, well the transfer ports for sure. For 87-88 the clutch basket is different as is the shaft it attaches to. There is more but that is the main stuff. I have on the 500 made new inserts and changed the cylinder studs a newer one in an older frame one. Taking an older lower end and putting it in a newer chassis with the water cooling would be harder.

Man the 500 was a mean machine....we did everything to stop the vibs...never happened...the 430 still feels like a 500 with a little less vib...but still much more than the 400...that 500 was a beast to ride....you get that baby in the revs and you better ready to roll...

Thanks for the info guys very interesting. My forks are in great shape and the suspension also.The bike had a few owners but was not used much.I can't wait to get it out this spring I'll try and get a few pics up sometime soon.

That is one of the funnest bikes I have ever owned. Flat out hauls the mail.

I had a 87 430XC. Full agreement with all on the power. Can't get my 82 near that level, yet!

Get some photos of that bad boy up I would love to see it. I got to tell you the 87 430 CR is a really rare bike. I have only seen maybee 10 in mylife time. I have seen many more 87 430 WR and XC.

Thanks guys I'm sure it will be more than enough bike for me. I just need to clean it up adjust and oil cables. I think it sat more than anything.It starts and runs like a new bike.
