    Hi folks,

i am looking for some advice as i bought my boy a 1999-2001 husky boy 50 senior S5 Air Cooled cheap as i knew it had a little bit of work needed. Anyway i initially found that i couldn't get it to run so stripped the top end and carb down.

    1. Top End
    • on stripping top end down i discovered the gasket between the barrel and casing was missing so bought a gasket set and replaced the 2 top end gaskets. After doing that it would fire up but couldn't get it to idle properly, however piston and barrel looked in decent condition and to be honest piston looked in a relatively new condition. There were also no signs of excessive wear in the barrel so gave it a hone and re assembled. I also replaced the spark plug and the spark plug cap which also made a big difference
    2. Carburettor

    • On stripping carburettor down and phoning Husqvarna it was found that the jets were bigger so ordered the recommended jets etc and fitted and the little bike fired up 2nd kick and goes like a rocket when COLD!! Once up to temperature it cuts out. It starts again no problem but bogs down and cuts out. Also i can screw the air/fuel mixture right in and it will still run which is a bit weird.
so why can i crew the mixture screw right in?

how can i tell if the carb in just old and broken?

why when getting the proper jets etc does it rev slightly erratic?

why when it heats up it will idle but bog down and cut out when throttle is applied no matter where the mixture screw is set at?

how can i tell if barrel is needing relined ?

what happens when piston rings and barrel are gone?

apologies for so much questions its just that i don't want to fork out relining the barrel and buying a new piston and find that its not that!

also when started up the bike goes and pulls no problem and there seems to be plenty of compression!!

I'm just about done with it tbh but don't want to give up as my 7yr old boy just loves it!!

i could easy buy another one but whats the point as it won't be long until he needs a bigger bike.
