I'm looking at 2001 TE 400, I have owned over 20 Hukys but not a 4 stroke. I wonder if anyone could tell me some items to check for. I'm kind like the idea that the frame is based off 86 single shock as I have two 87 430 CR that I have owned for over 20 years that I love to ride.

    Thanks,
    Guy

the motor is basic- If the top end is noisy that may be the cam chain.
check the cam chain wear if possible-remove the tension on the tensioner spring and then remove the assembly to see how much travel is left on the tensioner. I had the cam chain replaced, and the magnets on the flywheel came unglued. They have to be in the right spot to be re-glued-many times easier to get a new flywheel. the bike just won't run.
It's a solid motor in a decent frame- carb needs to be dialed in correctly to start hot properly. I would kick and kick...
