A 2004 TE450 has come into my posession, and now the question becomes... Do I fix it up, or do I try to part it out and call it a day? Thought I'd get some input from all my freinds here on Cafe Husky! Here's what I know. The bike ran up until the day someone in the shop pulled the coil out and put it onto a customers bike who was in from out of town that needed one ASAP. They claim they just never replaced it and the bikes sat for the last 2 years or so. I've attached a bunch of pics so you can judge for yourself. Have a buddy who has a 2004 TE450 and has about 10 miles on it, so getting any idea on what kind of issues the bike could have at this stage of it's life, aside from the obvioius cosmetics, leaves me wondering what the Cafe Husky family has to say!

From what I have heard, the valves are an issue on the 04s. Titainium was used and the life span was not as long as the stainless valves used as a replacement and on later models.
If the coil is all you need, why not get it going and see how it runs?
    Maybe borrow a coil?
Maybe check the compression or do a leakdown test?
Do have a way to find out if the motor has been in to?
Judging by the rear sprocket wear, it looks to me to have more than a couple rides on it.

If you do part it out, I would be interested in the wheels (shameless plug).

yea first step id do is change the oil and clean the air filter. try and get a coil and see how it runs. you can even check the valves and what not.

Biggest problem with parting out huskys is there isnt very many of them so parts arnt in a high demand.

Agreed on not wanting to part it out due to demand. Sounds like trying to get her going is probably the smartest thing to do. Unfortunatly, this is a case where I've got more money than time! Have an ad in the classifieds looking for a coil should anyone have one. Not something most people leave laying around!

Looks like the bike was ridden hard and put away wet. I think with a little elbow grease, it could be a good bike. I agree, get it running and watch the valves. If they start moving, a stainless upgrade would be the way to go. I did the stainless kit on mine in 2005 and they have not moved since. Keep us updated on how things go.

Looking at your photos, I noticed that you are missing the oil check screw. Could be someone plugged it as well. Take a closer look at that before firing it up.

Thanks guys, decision has been made to sell it as a whole and have about 5 guys lined up off Craigslist to buy her as is. Appreciate all the feed back, very much. Cheers all!

03 to 05 Huskys have some kickstarter issues as well, if you keep the bike, you might want update the shaft to a 06 or newer, and a 06 side cover as well,
many a 03 05 Husky has got the dreaded cracked side case..
my brothers 03 has been a real pain...bike runs awesome, just not a good kickstart bike.

I actually have a coil still in the box from a 2004 450, it was pretty cheap less than 40.00, I would sell it. You probably could get a lot more money as a runner.
