Any tips (numbers) especially for this bike's OEM (Marzocchi/Ohlins) set up tips for rocky hardcore enduro settings (read plush). Intermediate Rider (Mtb bike expert) is @ 175lb, i think we should be able to get good sag numbers for him on the oem spring. I will work to go @35mm static with @100mm race sag standard, or more if your tips say to increase sag a little. fork projection setting above top triple 5, 10mm etc ??. REB and Comp settings will start from OEM settings on fork and shock, any numbers y'all have found let me know. We want an eastern style wrap it around trees tight stuff with sharp rocks setting. I use the vinduro % of travel formula. Any from experience ideas are welcomed into my data base. Also are they Marzocchi 45? 50? (i will see on sunday anyway). gotta have that important HSCD blow through into mid stroke to deal with embedded rocks without deflection. thx all
I've ridden and raced GGs in the rocks for 12 years prior to my Beta move. I actually prefer that old platform better with the exception of the fork, especially in the rocks and nasty stuff. The bike likes more than 100mm sag and still turns very well. You can run around 110mm. Keep the spring preload less than 10mm for a good ride, otherwise go up on the spring. Stock was a 5.2. Comp 15 - 18 clicks out, reb as fast as you can stand. I think tha old ohlins was better than the newer ones on the '12s/'13s. Fork should be Zoke 45s. I have a good rock setup if you want to revalve it. Stock rebound is too light and the fork snaps back hard after a deep compression sometimes giving the impression of a compression problem. Run the reb clicker in as far as you can and still avoid packing. Normally run the tubes to the first line. Stock fork springs are .42s. At low technical speeds you should be OK at 175lbs. Good rock bike, stable, planted, low seat height, old linkage doesn't hang up.
GMP, thanks for now he is sticking with as is, I dont know if his stuff has been serviced or revalved etc. Those tips are great I will start there and record for him. He has access to 2 good local San Diego suspension guys as well as ZipTy racing a little further up the road.
