Okay, here's a story about a boy named Bill, who bought a new 2006 SM610 and.............

I picked up the bike mid year in 2006, new from a Dealer. Absolutely loved the bike (and still do) but as most of you know, it ran like sheet. Lean as hell to the point of melting the blinkers with the stock exhaust. At the time, they were so new, JD didn't have a 610 specific kit, so I tried a 510 kit and some extra jets and such. Added a Leo can. 2 years into it and I never could get it to fuel right. I mean it ran okay, but popped like a bitch, was hard to start in the mornings and just generally very finicky.

I picked DukePilot's mind and he helped me get it okay.Rode it for the remainder of 09 in less than optimal "poppy" configuration.

3 years later, 3500 miles (yeah I know, I have 7 bikes so 610 was a every now and then ride) cruising to work and I get the dreaded "Rumble Strip"! I had read all about it and knew exactly what had happened. Luckily I was 8 miles form home, so I turn around and limped it back to the shed. Got home and drained the gas as I had a 2 week work trip coming up and knew I wouldn't get to it for a while. Put it on a tender and off to work travel I go.

2 YEARS LATER! I finally say dammit, fix that thing! I order the parts from Ann at Motoexotica and fix it. Changed the oil, adjusted the valves (first time), put fresh gas in it and rode it some.

Now it is 2013 and i love the bike but know I can do better with the fueling. Was watching the whole Lectron thing and wondering if that would ever come about. I called JD and told him the deal about buying the 510 kit from him 6 years ago and how it never quite ran right blah blah blah. He sent me a 610 specific set up he had developed since the time I started messing with mine.

Wow, made a huge difference, now the bike will start easy, idle pretty good, pull hard, wheelie with just throttle in 2nd gear, basically run like a 610 Husky should! but I still couldn't quite get the popping tuned out.

Now switch gears to this year, I am 8 years in. I had picked up a full Arrow Titanium exhaust 2 years ago for cheap, it was NIB for 400 bucks. I though, I am gonna drop that can on there and see how it sounds. So 3 weeks ago, I dropped on the Arrow Race can form the full kit and Mama Mia~ what a difference, I adjusted the airscrew back to 1.5 turns and she barely pops on decel now. Runs like a raped ape! Idles smoother and is really clean from idle all the way through the rev range now. This thing is like a new bike! I am in love all over again! Rode in today to work and thought, time to post my 8 years love/hate affair on the "Cafe'" and what do I see? The thread about the SM610 and the Lectron and how that is finally sorted out! Dammit! Now I have "just one more thing to do"! I have a Lectron on my 13 Berg TE300 and love it, so think I am gonna drop some more coin on the 610 and see if I can make it even better!

I have always thought the 41FCR is too large of a carb for the 610. I mean my KTM525 has a 39 on it and runs like a champ. Anyway, 8 years in and still in love but it has been along road.

BTW, I am just over 5800 miles on the old/new 610, so she has a long life in front of her and will be ridden alot more now! And the Seat Concepts seat makes it all day fun!

Moral to the story, when you love something, don't give up on it, with some time and patience you can have the "girl of your dreams"!:p

That's not a bad idea! Maybe buy a 610 motor and have it all done up and throw the Lectron on it. Too easy to swap motors out on these bikes. I find myself wheeling alot more now:busted:
