Well, all this 125 mania has gotten to me, and I'm thinking hard about trying out a 125 in the ECEA enduro series. I would LOVE to try the new WR, but I have found a great deal on a leftover 2008 CR. Riding a 2008 will also prevent me from having to figure out a larger tank. I'm cost concious, and I definitely don't want to pony up another $1k for an alloy tank.

Besides the usual additions to make it enduro-ready (i.e., head and tail lights, stator to power them, handguards, steering damper, gearing change, jetting), would there be anything else I'd need to add/do? Flywheel weight? Is a 19" wheel truly a problem in enduro situations?
I ride the sands and stick farms of South Jersey, with the occasional foray into Pennsy for a rock run. I'm currently on a 2007 TE250/300 which I love, but I want to try something lighter.

So, lightly modified 2008 CR125 for eastern enduros, or stick with my TE250/300?

My buddy is the CDN National SR "A" Enduro Champion and he rides an 08 CR125 with some fork mods. If you can find an 08 with the Ohlins shock that would be a bonus as they are too soft for moto but just right for the woods.

It is a great enduro bike with the right mods. I run local and national enduros on mine.

I was actually thinking about picking up another leftover 08 125 until this gas tank situation gets resolved.

They takes a little different riding style but i think you might love it. They feel VERY light and have great power especially if you don't have huge / long hills to conquer all the time.

    - BTW my 09 WR125 showed up today. Pick it up soon. :applause:

Something tells me I won't be dissuaded by you guys...

So, Ohlins better than the Sachs?

The new leftover CR I have my eye on has the Sachs, but I also have a line on a 2007 CR with 20 hours on it and an autoclutch for even less money than the leftover.

    Hmmm...decisions, decisions...

Oh, and spark arrestor? What fits and is quiet?

The 08 has the new cylinder that makes more power. Ohlins is considered better but I've never had issues with the sachs.

    I would think around $4500-$5500 US . For a 2008 CR-125 still in a create. Would be far.

I have been racing my Cr 125 against the open class at the AMA National Hare and Hound Desert races noproblem.Last year we raced every thing from wide open desert to super tight single track ,from below sea level to over 6000 feet again no problem.
In the last 2 years no problem with the 19 inch rear wheel ,no flywheel weight either
just get the suspention set for your riding style and learn to ride it like you stole it
Bottom line the bike feels like a mountain bike with a chain saw motor in it ,your 250 will be sitting around alot One one thing i have a 2006 and a 2008 not much difference between the 2 just get one

The Sachs is a great shock. The Ohlins is valved too soft for MX IMO and works better in the woods than the Sachs (with stock valving/spring).

Only the early build 08 CR125s have an Ohlins shock. The later builds have Sachs.

They were $5399 + $200 freight last year (MSRP)

With the $1000 rebate, you should be able to buy one for mid $4K US.

All I got to say about the successful use of ANY Husky 125 in an ECEA Enduro is "Fast Freddie Hoess"..........there.....I am done.

Heinen's in Minnesota has quoted me $3899 (out of state, so no taxes up front) plus $425 shipping to the easterly coast, so $4324. I believe this is with the $1k rebate continuing through April.

Update: the trigger has been pulled

Before buying the 2008 CR125 in Minnesota that I would have needed to ship to the right coast, I decided to check with Scott at Toytech Cycles in Grantville, PA. This is where I got my 2007 TE250. Well, wouldn't you know that he can get me the exact same price ($3899, no prep or destination charges), AND he'll even take another bike on trade. (It's an original, titled DT250 Yammie that I need out to make room for the tiddler). It's a done deal!

Now to find out the best way to get lights for it...and a spark arrestor...and handguards...and steering damper...and speed sensorand mount kit for my ICO...and scorecard holder...and jetting...and premix oil...

I heard a rumor that a late-model KTM 125 stator from Moose Racing will fit with some soldering. Is this true? And what sort of soldering? Will it just make sense to buy a WR ignition/stator, or is the Moose stator that much cheaper?

    Jeeze, I just can't get over it...a NEW 2008 CR125 for $3899 !!

That's a sweet deal, out here in the northwest i just picked up (last thursday) a new 2008 cr 125 for $3400 out the door from our local dealer . I was not really ready to buy another bike, but i am trying to do my part to stimulate the economy!! congrats, i am curious on your mods, because mine will be strictly trail ridden.
