My '08 SM450R died on the way home tonight. At first I thought the neutral light was just blinking, but it is actually flashing twice then a long on, then repeats the sequence. The fuel pump does not try to charge the system when the key is turned. Any ideas? I looked in the user manual, and it says fuel injection system...take to dealer. If anyone has the code, it would be nice to know before I contact the dealer. My guess is that all 08+ bikes are using the same error codes. Perhaps this should be in technical discussions?
Disconnect the battery for a few hours.....probably only needs it 20 min. or so. Hook it back up again and see what you have. You should be able to call some of the good dealers and get an answer on what your trouble code means along with your symptoms.
Battery is out of the bike tonight. I will call the dealers tomorrow and see if I can get an answer. The 3 fuses looked fine. Bike won't start, fuel pump won't charge, and light is blinking. None of my searches have returned anything, so I guess I am unique yet again.
I thought I read a post on this on Thumpertalk. I may be wrong but isn't there more fuses than just the three?
Nope...just 3. I put the battery back in and still have an error code. Bike doesn't have any spark. Need to start poking around with the multimeter to see if I can figure out where the breakdown is. I have a wire diagram and I am not afraid to use it.
Interesting, I think you have a couple of more if it is the same as my '08 TE 450. Sitting on the bike behind the right side number plate, are these the three you are seeing? Take the Left Side rear number plate and there should be a few fuses in this wire junction with the white/clear covers. These are larger fuses. [/IMG]
You probably already know this but there's a relay for the fuel pump that you could check, and you could test your fuel pump if you wanted to remove it from the tank.
I don't have a picture, but the three fuses that I was looking at were under the other number plate (right side as you are sitting on the bike), and they were the smaller blade fuses (they are also the only fuses in the electrical diagram, not that means anything). Your picture shows the left side (exhuast side on '08). I will checked that out tonight. tosaw...thanks for the info. Where did you get the .PDF shop manuel? I have one for my Honda, and would really like one for the Husky.
Dealer will sell you the shop manual for your bike for $10 on CD. Try Hall's Cycles if your local won't get it for you. 3801 N. Dirksen Parkway Springfield, IL 62707 (217)789-0107 (217)789-7408 Fax halls@halls-cycles.com Hours: Tues, Fri 9-7 Wed, Thurs 9-6 Sat. 9-5 Closed Sun, Mon
I had a similar issue, found the main plug going into the CPU creeping out. Repluged it in and put a wire tie around it. No issues since.
All 5 fuses are good. All three relays checked out (82.9ohms). Fuel pump runs. ECU seems to be sending signal to the coil, but there isn't any spark. I called Halls and double checked, and they said to meter out the stator, cause no spark either means stator or coil. Stator is DEAD. I couldn't get it to produce anything. Halls said it should have a 4.5 ohm resistance, and a 19.5 ohm with the cap removed (hope I understood him correctly), but I got nothing regardless of what I tried. So for haha's I decided to meter it for any voltage while cranking it, and still nothin. So my guess on the error is that the stator died which caused a lack of charge to the coil, and signal to the ECU, hence the EFI code.
check inside the stator cover. IIRC there could be a loose wire issue in these things. I think George (Uptite) mentioned it once. Search it on this site if you get a chance.
Another thing I have heard of happening to a few people with the 08's is that the 2 female terminals that plug into the coil have just a little play in them and do not fit snugly onto the terminals,,,in turn making the bike not spark,,just something to look at,,,but if you tested the stator correctly and its not giving you the correct readings then it must need replaced. Just to let you know,,,my 1st 08TE450 did about the same exact thing as your bike(but back fired a few times before it died all the way). It spent a couple weeks at the dealership and had a lot (if not just about all) new electrical parts installed on it,including a new stator,,,and it still didn't fix the problem,,,Never did find out what it was,,but the 2nd 08 TE450 is running great and never misses a beat.
How long did you have the 1st before you got the 2nd, and was the new bike the warranty fix? The coil connections are snug, and metered out at 5 ohms which isn't the 4.5 spec. I also spun the bike over while metering the plug wire and got 10 volts which is interesting since the 3 yellow charge wires coming out of the stator don't seem to be producing any charge. I pulled the stator, and can't see any fried wires, and they all felt snug (I didn't want to start dissasembling the stator as I want it covered under the warranty). I am taking the bike in Tuesday, but won't take it to Motofit (where I got the bike) as their shop has a horrible reputation for turnaround on warranty work.
I had the first one for a few weeks before the problems started. Now that I think about it my dealer did have my bike for just over 3 weeks. It came the day that my dealer had my bike longer than I had owned it, and I said enough is enough,,gave Husky 3 options, #1-give me a full refund,,#2- send every single electrical part and a new motor to be put in my bike or#3-get me a new bike. 2 days later I was informed that my new bike was on the way,,,talk about good customer service and standing behind your product. This very reason is why I'll never buy another Jap bike again. Having a good dealer that will also work with ya and asks you,,what you want to do,,,makes things go a lot smoother.
Bike is fixed! I called Wagner's today (bike was scheduled to be looked at today), and they said that the tech go to it last night and were able to figure out and fix the issue. Turns out it was a faulty fuse (not blown, just faulty), and a loose wire on the tipover sensor. All I know is I am picking up my baby on Saturday. I can't thank Wagner's enough. I was going through serious withdrawls. They even fixed the stuff that motofit f'd up during assembly.
dead te450 my '08 TE450 died Sat. on me about 2 mi. from my destination after about 190 mi. for the day. Just died on a dirt seasonal road like it lost all elec. power to the pump. Neutral lite blinks twice then goes constant to blinking again regardless if it is in neutral or not. No sound from the pump when i turn the key on either??? Any suggestions??
