Every year for the past 6 years San Diego Adventure riders has put on a two day event in February at the Anza Borrego Desert state park called the Desert Dash. It always gets all the limited entries filled and riders come from as far away as Japan (every year!) to ride it. We stage the event out of the Butterfield campground on Highway S2 and have scheduled lunch stops for the participants. Each day is there is a 150 mile route to follow with the supplied roll chart. This year, we had some rain and the desert was pretty nice. This is the first year (7th Annual) that I was able to actually make it down there for the event. I was supposed to be riding with the sweep team on Saturday, but was too out of sorts and out of shape to stick with them, so I ended up catching up with an old friend and we rode part of the course together. I saw lots of Husqvarnas out there. Here is the fixed link to the pictures from the event. http://www.dualsport-sd.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=6659
Yes, they were one of the sponsors. I think that the best remembered sponsor would have to be Brown Bag Lunch that fed all those hungry riders.
Hey DD looks like your link to the Annual Desert Dash has been moved. Looks like the only way to see it is to be a member of SDAR. Anyway of posting some pics so us C/H members can see some?
They moved it to it's own forum. I just edited the link, so try again. The one above worked for me before I changed it.
Crappity, it appears to be in the regular forum area, but somebody must have screwed up. I sent a PM to the owner of the website, so I hope he'll fix it soon. there were lots of people on that ride that aren't SDAR members that I'm sure would like to have a look at the pics and write ups. Was working before they moved it.
Hey DD, Thanx for all the hard work. Love your pictures and others. Lot of riders. Pretty big group. Looks like everyone had fun even if it did rain a bit. Your jacket...is that one of Kelly's?
I think that entries are limited to 100 and they all get filled each year, plus sweep and volunteer, and a few people who aren't signed up and ride parts of the course. But the riders are all spread out, so the course is never crowded. I rode part of it going in the wrong direction. Riders can start the ride each day at any time they want, so little batches of riders leave Butterfield all morning long. Best not to start too late though, or the lunch guys will run out of sammiches. Yeah, that's the Motosports Sinisalo Husky jacket. Gotta love it. Here is yet another write up about THe Dash on a different forum. http://www.district37ama.org/forums/showpost.php?p=456292&postcount=4
Neato! I have 1001 memories of that area, first started riding out there on my old '77 AW440 Maico. Our big thing was Burro's Bend to Salton Sea and back...or die trying. Died every time lol. Off SM Rd. on the way to the mine we had a turkey day blow out every year with the BBMC. Wonder if Husky Hill is still there? I miss the NY Eve party's and bonfrire at the Door. Saw it was for sale last time I was out there for a beer. That's an Icon that shall never be replaced. Long Live the A-hole Club! I think my dollar is still up in there somewhere....cant miss it, it's rusty from all the staples a tipsy bro used to hang it... he emptyed the gun into it. A lot sure has changed out there....getting too fancy fer me. Man I got some stories about Old Ocotillo.... Good times. Neat ride, thanks for bringing back some memories of better times in the Dez.
We have a lot of sponsors for the event, and a couple of them are local Husqvarna dealers (GP and Motoforza). We also have KTM North America as a sponsor and the SDAR Prez is hoping to add Husqvarna for future Dashes.
Yer makin' me itchy to git on down there for some fun before it dries out. It don't get moist that often there.
