    Hi all,

First off - I'm a relatively new dirtbike owner, so on a scale of 1-10 on mechanic knowledge, I'm probably a 2 or 3.

I bought my first dirtbike in 10 years recently, and I love it.

But one thing that (I think) the previous owner hid from me is a slight oil leak. Now I don't even know what the spot where the oil is leaking from is called (some gasket/seal of sorts), but with the pictures I've provided, I was hoping someone could tell me some more info on it.

Firstly, is it anything to worry about? Should I get if fixed ASAP?
Or is it something I can do myself (with my limited knowledge (but I'm a quick learner IMG_1600(copy).jpg IMG_1601(copy).jpg
    P.S. Here's a picture of my bike

Water pump/impleller is behind the cover, the impeller is driven by the large gear that drives the 2 cams. There's an oring in the pic below that might be bad.

I second the o ring is probably bad

The cover on my 2007 TE 450 started to sweat and leak shortly after I bought it new in 2007. It hasn't gotten much worse over the years so I haven't done anything about it. Seems that it was fairly common on this generation of engines. The one pictured in the first post above is leaking a good bit more than mine does, so I would guess it needs a little attention if you don't want to be continually cleaning it up. Mine seems to sweat out only near the bottom though. The one pictured looks like maybe it is leaking at the top, so maybe check the valve cover gasket seal just above it too.

Looked to me too like potentially just the valve cover. I'd spray some contact cleaner in there and clean it then run again and check. Could be loose cover bolts too.

Thank you all for the input!
I agree that it does seem like the o-ring in the bottom of that picture could be the issue. Like I said, I'm not very mechanically inclined, but replacing an o-ring should be no problem. To take off the water pump plate, do I need to drain anything? Like the engine of oil, the radiator of coolant or anything?
    Thanks again for the help.

    drain the coolant, definitely.

you don't want the timing chain gear dropping down either (see OHR's pic with a bungee hook on it- middle green arrow) or else you could lose cam timing.
