oh man........be sure to roll through to "real trails" up there!!There are some really good ones added to the homegrown mix.
We all did some set up stuff last weekend, for our Kato crew we helped em do sag and clickers plus clutch bleed, 4 me it was reset sag, back off the HSCD a couple clicks, and raise my front to the first ring from top was 2 down. I sure hope we have some rain before this one, but heck been riding alot of dust during training sessions!! Let us know how it goes!!RN
    I'll fone ya up later.

    McCain Ride Report

Hi All, well got out there at about 9 am...little breezy, but otherwise an unusually sunny day in eastern San Diego County :applause:

As usual, the starter brings her to life real quickly...Started with some atv wide trails to get a better feel for the bike and moved into tighter single track....

Couple of things...this motor spools up quickly and I think makes its money in the midrange...Like Kelly stated in a previous post, you could probably ride it in the midrange of the powerband and not shift to often...I still have that nasty bottom end hesitation...like some others here have posted and Dirt Bike ragazine commented on in the Dec. issue. She hesitates getting off the bottom, which will be a concern when racing and transitioning from out of the low end of the powerband. I found myself clutching a lot when she would hesitate...

Besides this though, once your out of that trouble zone and your zipping along working the trail...man she just flows...point and shoot...point and shoot....it is super easy to work the bike...the chassis is super nimble and you can be aggressive...really get into turns and rail it....like a 2 smoker...really get into the turns, accelerate hard to the next turn and repeat...

Suspension: I pounded 2 to 3 foot whoops and man, that suspension just soaked it up...the bike stays straight and never deflected or swapped...it felt super stable through the whoops....5th gear pinned...The bike is so light and agile feeling, it is easy to overjump stuff at first...but after a while you get a rythm going...

I will soon try some of the settings that have been recommended on here and hopefully it clears it out on the low end. That is my only complaint....which if I had the ibeat software already, it would be done and over with...so its really not a big deal....

This bike does not wear you out at all, you can ride it slow or fast, slow trails to faster flowing stuff....

    Mitch.

Nice info Mitch, thanks. I feel the same, awesome bike, lots of motor, excellent suspesnion, feels 2 stroke like, etc.

As you might know I richened mine up with iBeat before the first ride. Went to far and it was rich. No hesitation or bog but ragged running. I rode again yesterday and as my iBeat stuff did not show up in time I took the SA out of the muffler in hopes it would run leaner. It did and WOW the sucker feels like a 450. Almost to much bark off the bottom. The amount of power out of this little motor is amazing. :notworthy:

Keep the ride reports coming. The more comments about fuel mileage the better. Also, I hate hearing how much better any bike runs with a free flowing exhaust. I hate loud bikes but I want all the power a bike can muster.

My inside person has told me the TE and TXC have almost identical engines but the TE has a db killer inserted. Given the performance the TXC appears to gain with the SA removed I cringe at how choked up the TE just might be.

I am curious to hear what US riders have to say about the TE. That is probably my next bike regardless but I hate to think I need a loud bike to extract strong power. In fact, one reason I used to ride 450's was that even choked off and quiet, they made lots of power.

Maybe the FMF Q4 will be the answer?

I hate loud bikes too. I really am disappointed you have to remove the SA to make the TXC run good. Hopefully further EFI tuning will cure this, along with improving the fuel range. I'd like to have one of these bikes, but I'm hanging on to my 250X in the meantime.

I tried to get a Q4 Stealth for my WR250, but FMF doesn't make one for this Husky. I ride in a noise sensitive area and even my two stroke is too loud.

I also dislike loud bikes. You don't have to take the SA out to make it run right, it ran great before. like i said i messed up the EFI settings myself and this was a temporary fix. It did show me though that if i wanted to pop the Sa out and run the richer settings there was more power to be had. With it in and right settings it is still a fantastic motor. probably better with it in for woods work, with it out it was a bit of a handful at times.

FMF will have a muffler shortly. Like i posted, this bike is fantastic right from the crate.

I have to give Honda some respect for the x silencer. That thing is super quiet. And I remember when the mags tested louder silencers and included dyno runs. I think all the loud ones only made like half a HP more at valve floating rpms and actually lost some bottom. The stock quiet one appeared to make the best woods power. So how did they do this? Is it that it is a mechanical silencer so it is heavy but not restrictive? I am not a big Honda fan but I have always been attracted to that bike because it can run good while being so quiet.

Is a Q Steath coming out for the Husky? Maybe it will be quiet and not choke the bike up. Or maybe with some careful efi tuning the bike will run with a quiet silener without much power loss? I want to like the new Husky 250 so I am wathing to see if all the efi, sound, and gas tank issues get resolved. I imagine they will be by the time I am ready to buy.

My WR125 is really loud on the pipe but it is high pitched. With a helmet on most of it goes away. I know I am not disturbing other forest uses unless they are right behind me. I don't want a bike that can be heard all over the mountain.

Guys, it is not that loud. Adams WR250 was as annoying if not more so in the parking lot, everyone looked up. No one commented on the bike and is has a nice sound. Yes, it is loud but not real loud. Wil reinstall SA, iBeat, and rip. non issue.

a short vid i took with Adam on the bike but it is a down hill so no throttle. (sorry, thats all i got, cam vid)

I wish they had kept all of the 08 & up bikes as quiet as the 07's. My 07 regularly blows 86-88db at 4500rpm, or 90-92 at 6500. Never been repacked either.

Is the TXC as fast as Adams WR 250 ?

Faster IMHO. Not as much overall power but a lot more of it reaches the ground and you get a lot more from each gear as it will pull from 0-12000 RPM. Power is not an issue with the 2010 TXC.

Not surprising, as my 07 TE 250 only gives up 2-3 bike lengths to 70mph against a WR250 Husky.
Against a new KTM 200 XC or XCW it's a flip of the coin, depending on who's riding.
Drop 30-35 # off my bike(I have ~10# of extra junk & accesories attached) and add 2-3 Hp, I'm sure It could easily equal or beat most 250 2 strokes.

My buddy bought the all new YZF250 back when the remarkable new 5 valve 4 strokes first came out. I was on a WR250 at the time. I was always surprised he was right there when we broke out on to a transfer road and hammered it.
