OEM halogen light is 35/35 watt Philips, HS1. H4 3 legged bulb fits and provides significantly improved illumination. If I replace original with a 60/55 watt H4, any long term consequences, such as to wiring, switches, etc.? Initial indications are that battery voltage is not drawn down when at normal warm idle (14.6-.8, same as with stock bulb). Regulator kicks in at higher idle, get about 13v. Have led rear turn signals, Shorai battery, TXC ECU, and 12 point injector; electrics are otherwise stock. My calculations are that stator has 196.2 watt capacity at 12 volts and 5,000 rpm (229.6w at 14v). Can't locate stock wattage load. And am considering cutting off low beam leg of HS4, so could run lights off at low beam setting, on hi at hi beam setting. Will either the bike or I fry in hell? Am neither a German nor an Italian engineer. Closer to an American Luddite.
    Thanks, Phil

Sounds like an OK idea but I would worry about heat and melting the connector.

Just to close this thread. Based on a concurrent thread re the 449, there is a Piaa high performance HS1 35/35 watt bulb with improved performance and which will not overheat the connector.

Old thread bump.. I found this thread to late..
I used the 60/55 watt H4, when the 35w broke. God light for a short time... until the reflector melted. Replace part cost aprox 70-90 Euro
    I gambled, and i lost...

So for others that will find this... DONT do it...

thanks for the report. nice to get that kind of feedback.

I'm using a LED H4 (without a fan). It's 14W measured, with about 3 of those watts emitted in a remote power supply. The bulb is bright but not as focused as an incandescent. I got a pair of them for $23 delivered. I am not sure I would recommend them, but they do have a low draw (1.1amps at 12v; 0.95amps at 14.2v IIRC... I have photos of the actual numbers. The Chinese numbers were, of course, out of this world: a claimed 30W and 8000Lm. for one bulb- yeah right)

I picked up one of those PIAA bulbs as a spare on Tinken's recommendation as I did hear anything above 35w would melt things. Stock bulb still working so have not tested the PIAA
