I can't believe this online so quick but here it is ... Pretty cool race ... It was like the young and old going at... View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PliZXupkN64 Not sure on injuries but I hope all riders heal quickly and ride safely in the future races.
both classes were exciting to watch, even the Heats! gonna be a great season of racing (as long as no one else gets hurt!)
Looks like Tomac will be OK and racing soon. Good news. http://www.cyclenews.com/647/22770/Racing-Article/Supercross--Eli-Tomac-Update.aspx
Great news and Millsaps and TC41 are yet to appear also... We could see a 1-2-3 orange podium .. I wanna see how Davie looks on a new bike.
I think Stewart was the fastest one there that night. Villipoto just seemed to loose the raw speed he had in his first moto, I am not sure if the 2 crashes in the first race got to him or what, but once he crashed again in the main it seemed like he hit a speed barrier and just coasted. Maybe he was playing it smart and just trying to get through the night healthy...but he was much slower after that third crash, the top 5 or 6 just pulled right away from him in the main event. As for Stewart I think he was the man to beat this week. He was clearly fast but it seemed like his rear end was all over the place on some of the jump faces and in the whoops. It seemed like he got that mostly settled before the main but that was a bad line through those whoops (plus from what the other riders said the whoops were trecherous that night). The line he took kinda went diagonal through the whole set of whoops and thats a bad line in whoops, usually you want to try and stay totally straight in the whoops to keep your rear end from kicking or sliding out on you, but it looked like he just hit a bad rut and lost control. Either way great job to the KTM boys and I hope to see Stewart back at the front next weekend. Also, great job Jason Anderson in the lites class! I pick him for the lites class winner this year. Ive been watching since Lorrettas and if you've ever seen his go pros from the outdoors he rides super hard and I think with a little luck on his side he can win the West Coast series.
RV was said to have a pretty good cold / flue before the race. I think he had had enough of that night and cruzed to a finish before he moved back further trying to move forward. KR stayed right with him for several laps which is impressive in itself. For me though JS had them all beat by a good margin. To slice through the pack of the fastest guys on the planet like he did was stunning. Passing wherever he liked with lots of room while other struggled for laps to get around someone. Really impressive. The line he took was bad. Seemed just right of center was some offset dips int he whoop faces. Saw several guys swapping through there. Commentators where saying the whoops were crazy hard / big. If you have ever walked down by the tracks at these races the whoops are HUGE. TV does noting for that scope of what you have to commit to. Was great racing. Look forward to more. Love the new format and was entertaining for sure.
This pot of Stew is simmering well I'd say ... I always like using the past to point the way for the future... Someone please correct me if this wrong -> Stew was not won a championship with RV2 on the track ... RV2 has won all his championships with JS7 on the track ... -- Did anyone notice the camera work? They shot straight down the lanes many times.. You could see all riders weaving down lanes to set up for the exit at bermed turn at the end... Almost impossible to do any passing here unless bar-to-bar (no one did this?) or like Stew was doing, getting out of the racing line and use the inside line towards the end of the lane and square the corner up. For those who may not totally understand the rhythm lanes, it just all speed and timing with the bike in the air and then coming down to a receiver ramp and then you are just gonna take off again. You cannot over-jump (caused by too much speed or throttle) in those sections because it will totally screw you up when you jump and land too close to the next take-off ramp. So, unless someone makes a mistake, the speed is a set pace for even these PROs and very hard to even attempt a pass down the lane.
Stewy says... "“This weekend was just the first round,” said Stewart. “Definitely, I didn’t want to go out like that, but at the same time, I felt like this was the best I’ve been riding in years and this was the best I’ve felt on a motorcycle in years. So I’m confident and healthy, and I feel good on the bike.” Despite the crash and the resulting DNF, Stewart has a lot to be pleased about, including starting out the day on a positive note, by posting the fastest lap times in the first 450 class practice session. “All day went pretty good and I was able to get second in my heat race,” added Stewart. “In the main event, I was late off the gate and I was pretty far back. But I made my way up on the bike and it got better and better as the race went on. I felt stronger and stronger and my lap times started going down. I could see that I was starting to pick it up and make time on the guys up front. I went to make a pass in the whoops – they’d been taking people out all night – and I kind of got caught out. But I’m happy, the Yoshimura Suzuki team stepped it up again and I’m really proud of my guys and where we are. And now we’re just going to continue to get better as we head to Phoenix.”"
Yeah he needs to get a better start so he doesn't have to go over the edge to catch people. I want to see all the riders healthy and racing then see how things shake out. What's still gets me is the 450's look so fast compared to the 250's but the 250's in the race were running about a second faster per lap; 58.6's or so for 450 front runners and the 250's were running 57.6's.
450s did not get a single holeshot at MXdN this yr and I think KR94 won a moto on a 250 ... Same as RV2 did yrs back. Do you guys know who James Stewart is? He ain't no spring chicken and he don't need no holeshot to win a race ... He started a SX season yrs back in last place (sort of like RV2 last yr starting in 16th place) also and still won the SX championship... All he had to do was win about every race the rest of the season and that's what he did. No RC4 on the track and only CR22 as competition, who got whipped by him the entire season;same as he put cr22 in the backseat in this race with yet another clean pass on the guy. This championship was pre-BubbaWorld (I think) and he still crashed in those days but did not crash championships away at that time as he has done for the last several yrs... Stews' career can be divided as BB (Before BubbaWorld) or AB (After BubbaWorld)... This AB time is really just hitting its peak now ... I'm not sure he can do another BS season and expect to keep a ride. With that said, this yrs Stew pot is cooking up well so far.
These riders are just too smooth and cool ... KR94 takes his hand off the bars even before he starts up the finish line jump ... He does it and its almost undetectable its so smooth a move... Stew has never been at a loss of words ... He rode them to Hollywood and back :0)
lol yeah Ray I think I saw that guy race before . It just seems to me he crashes when he's "going" for it and if he was out front maybe just maybe it wouldn't happen. I know he can win from a 10-15 place start but it sure would be a lot easier to win if you are up front from the start. It's a big group of guys that can win a race now not just 2 or 3. I like him as a racer not so much in Bubba World. At this time I like RD5.
True and when him or RD5 or RV2 get in the lead, they are gone. But then several other guys like in this race, can get a start at the front and hang-on for the podium. But Stew can hit the dirt from any position because he is ~always riding\racing at his edge ... It looked so weird to see guys passing him in last years' racing and Stew just them go ... That is not Stew and must have been killing him inside ... That was the real Stew in that race trying to pull even with the race leader in the whoops with 5(?) laps to go... Too bad he crashed but he has done it all before and walked away... He had more speed than KR94 and it was just a matter of time ... He just about gave the championship away unless he wins out (?) or the next contenders, (RV2, RD5) crash out also in at least 1 race. Just gives him another reason to go balls to the wall each week. I'll be amazed if this guy is not battling for the win each week till he has nothing left and just hangs it up for this SX yr and says : "time for me to get ready for the outdoors". DM18 and TC41 gotta come back so the whole top 10 can win a race now... And RD5 as champ will be a good thing ...
Lemme get out my old Military code book...DNF, yep copy that...SX, 5 by 5 However I get no joy on RD5, RV2, KR94, DM18, TC41. Target coordinates please. Ready to call in the heavies.
