What's the word on 2017 electric start? Anyone have anything good or bad to say yet?

Seems like they went very Beta on the new design. Anybody got any issues?

Seems to be no issues other than the batteries seem to not crank as good after bout 3 months.

Is that a lithium battery issue?

I am ready to pull the trigger on a new bike but a little nervous about a first year model.

I had a crummy experience with my 2001 520EXC. It spent 2 months in the R&D Orange offices after the starter broke on the first ride. That sucked but atleast I still had a YZ to ride. Never really trusted the starter on dead engine hare scramble starts, just seemed better to kick it hard for a good starting position. I'm not knocking it totally cause I sure miss it on my Wr300. It's the one thing that rubs me wrong on my wr. Too many hill sides and uneven ground flame outs that a button would of saved some energy or made life just a wee bit better.

Trying to decide between a te300 and a 300 RR.

Yes, I think it is just a basic Lithium battery they install.

The estart on these bikes are great.

I know by the time you leave the starting lines on good estart/ if you are good on reaction times. Guys are just kicking there bikes.

Is there a better high performance lithium battery? What brand?

Lots guys out west go with Earth X from like Zip Ty racing.

I had a Ballistic and it did good but both terminals spun in the plastic. I was real careful as well and always held the cable when loosening and tightening bolt.

I know lots of GNCC racing guys use the Super B's but they lil pricier. Super B is one ill prob go with or Earth X.

One thing to look at is there CCA's (Cold Cranking Amps).

Plus look at there warranties. Some are 1yr,2yr,3yr.

You are better off to have a strong cranking battery on the starter than a battery that doesn't have enough amps and makes the starter drag. Starters last longer.

There are some off brands too that guys have had good luck with.

Another factor! You should ride one of the new bikes with the aer forks or xplor.
White power is really dialing these forks in for offroad use as far as enduro's and Harescrambles.
On my Xplor, all I need to do is go up one or two spring sizes and go from 4wt to 5wt oil. Other than that I think they are perfect. I like them better than KYB's out of the box.

After putting in a bit over an hour from new my starter has stopped. The relay clicks hard and battery voltage is good. Getting the VOM out tonight to chase the problem down if I can.

Followed voltage down the wires to the starter and decided since it was under warranty I'd let the dealer take a look further. Turns out the starter motor has some burned wires and has to be replaced.

Something in motor went bad wouldnt turn motor over then just completely quit, i wanted to take it apart and see if it was brush or armature problem but couldnt if i wanted to warranty it. Its very small about the size of my rc car motors
