420AE transmission fill level?

I can't find a service or owners manual for the 420AE, only parts supplements and some tech bulletins. Does anyone know the amount of cc's of Univis J26 oil to put in one of these automatic transmissions?

My manual had printed 1.2litre and I have crossed that out and wrote 1 litre,its been a while but I seem to remember an oil level bolt in the left case,BTW there was a long thread on TT Husky 2 stroke re Autos,they can be frustrating but when there going great fun

Zim - Thanks for the help. I had seen in a 390 Auto spec sheet the capacity listed as "1 1" which was confusing and didn't state a unit of measure. After seeing your measurement I now now that's "1.1 liters". So, the 420AE tankes 1 liter per your notes. That's good to know as mine has leaked down during its past owner's storage. I couldn't find a fill line so didn't know if it was a little splash or a real fill up deal. A full liter sounds like a fill.

Thanks for the tip on the TT thread. I've read that one and just about anything even remotely related to the old Husky autos I could search up online. But that TT thread has a lot of little bits of info that I keep gleaming every time I re-read it. Good stuff!

I use this AMSOIL 5W-30 tractor hydraulic transmission oil in our 76 360 auto and it works awesome if you would like to get some go tO WWW.AMSOIL.COM and put in my dealer# 1726849. On the old one's i have there's a screw on the left side case you unscrew then pour in your oil and when it starts coming out hole its at the correct level. By the way i use AMSOIL synthetic lubricants in everything thing and they perform with outstanding results. Here's a pic of a quart why buy five gallons when they only hold a quart and a half.

Be careful as that 1 1 may actually be 1 liter and not 1.1 liter. The lower case "L" looks a lot like a "1" in the shop manuals.

I figured the same thing.

Yes, I found Univis J26 and bought the minimum 5 gallon pail of it. I wanted real Univis and thought other vintage Auto owners could benefit from it as I obviously don't need 19 liters of it.

Why buy 5 gallons? I was told and read repeatedly to replace the trans fluid after every day of riding. I've practice this and am amazed by the metal particles in the oil after every use. Makes sense to get them out of there. I love this trans! I bought a 82 420ae with 96 miles but for obvious reasons can't ride it so I bought a rider and don't want to ride anything else. It'll go from zero, up a hill, thru the woods (always in the right gear) hit an open area and rocket to 80+? and not miss a beat. BTW I use type F

I am with moretoys with the most expensive gearbox available, I am not keen on messing about with oil types, with a change after every serious ride that's less than 20 changes a drum
