450 to 250?

I went from a WR250 to a TE450 so I could have something more street legal. I am not liking the extra weight of the 450 so I am thinking either a 250TXC (2008 or 2009) or going back to a smoker. I really like the new frame on the 450, so I am leaning towards the TXC. My only reservation is the power of the 250. I weigh 200lb and have been riding larger bikes since my last 125, 25 years and 40lb ago.

Would like to hear from someone over 200lb. who has gone from a 450 to a 250. I know the 250 has enough power to haul me around, but I don't want to loose too much of the fun factor of having way more power than you need.

Just got a 09 TXC250. Weigh 220lbs. I was a little worried about down sizing to a 250 four stroke myself. The draw of the bigger 450 is very tempting until I rode one on the trails. The low end torque is great, but I found myself fighting the bigger power instead of putting the power to work for me. The 250 has enough power to pull me through the nasty sections without the rear end trying to pass the front end. You have to make sure your in the right gear, and do a little more shifting compared to the 450. In the woods the 250 is a blast! It has all the power I need (coming off of a KTM 300 2 smoke). Either way you can't go wrong. The 450 makes more power than most folks can use. I'm very happy with my 250 and I'm sure you would be happy on one too.

250!

I second the 250. I've ridden alot of bikes over the past 10 years since the 4 strokes came out and nothing compares to the fun factor of a 250F. I weigh 240lbs with gear and my favorite bike until today was my trusty 02 250F Yamaha with a 81MM big bore kit in it. Today was the first ride on my low hour 08 TE250 and in stock form with the power up kit it is more fun to ride then the Yamaha and I havent even set the suspension yet! Nothing beats the happy button and the smooth power the 250 lays out. I can ride the smaller displacement bikes longer and have more fun then any 450/510 out there. The bigger bikes just beat you up more and in the end wear you out waaaaaaay faster. I had a KTM 300 and 380 and a 250 smoker and TC450 and a CRF450 and none of them were as much fun as the 250 was today. Now when I add the 300 kit or more it will be that much better! I love the 250 four stroke power, its a lazy mans dream........

Thanks for the feedback. I pulled the trigger on the 250. Had it out yesterday and really liked it. For the type of riding I do I think it will be better than a 450.
