Does anybody have an easy fix to prevent wear from the fork guards rubbing? I've been rotating the metal wear ring to prevent it from being worn in two but I'd rather it not rub at all.

I don't have a suggestion, but I just want to complain about it, too. I have the same issue on my 2012 WR125. I like to run seal savers, but the guards tear them up.

I have some seal savers new in the package that I won't install until I solve this. I thought of simply trimming away the plastic guard until it doesn't rub but I'm afraid that would leave it too flimsy to function as a guard.

I had this problem on my 2008 TXC when I first got it. I started pulling them forward every time I looked at them. Eventually it becomes their normal position unless you smack something.

I ended up doing the same thing with my TC250 and CR125, it seemed to fix the problem for me.

I do find myself yanking on other peoples fork guards from time to time... Oops

Never have had that problem on my 07 TE450. Maybe run a ziptie around the fork leg right there to keep them from rubbing. You wouldn't be able to run a set of Sealsavers with that setup, but just sayin'.

Good thinking! What if you put the ziptie over the top of the seal saver? Wouldn't that keep it from rubbing on the neoprene itself, and keep the wear on the ziptie?

I suppose so. It might cause a small hole to appear in the neoprene when the material compressed, or it might hinder compression of the material. Somebody should try it and let me know how it works!:D

That is how I ran the seal savers on my WR250f, and on my TXC when I was using them. I tried the large zip tie above the wear ring for a while, even wore through one. That didn't work as well for me as keeping them pulled forward and pulling them forward as I tighten them down.

I pulled the guard away from the fork before tightening and still it rubs, especially on the side with the brake hose because the hose torques it when the forks are compressed. I thought of trying a zip tie but wanted to see if there was a better idea out there.... the heat gun idea has potential. Maybe all of the above?

I have noticed the same thing. The brake side is hard to control. A strip of black Gorilla tape cut down to about 1/2 inch and wrapped around the outer slider takes the rubbing, but needs to be changed often.

I used a heat gun on mine and I run seal savers. I also put the metal wear ring on the outside of the seal savers and in the original groove on the fork tubes. My fork guards now do not rub on any-thing including the wear rings! There is a picture in my thread "new 2010 wr144".

Same problem on my 45 zokes on the caliper side.I drilled out the hole in the guard where it bolts nearest the caliper, pulled the top of guard forward and snugged bolt up .

All three times I serviced my forks I've rotated my forks in the triples and rotated the wear ring to keep from wearing out the same spot. I'll try to get a pick on in the next day or so.

    Doug,

Do you have the newer style 50 zokes? Best thing to do is get a set of 97 honda crf250 fork covers in solid white.

You will also need the brake line clamp and both the bolts. Covers sit further out from fork tube and little bigger.

Also, a year later, the white looks good instead of the black all scratched up first ride. In fact Hall's just asked me where I got them. Gives bike a sharp look!

Here are how they look! You can also get the Honda bolts on the bottom. They are flush instead of having a bolt head sticking out and you use an allen wrench.

Don't mean to highhack this thread but I have a 2008 WR with the 45mm Zokes and I have the opposite problem. On the Brake side the fork leans much farther forward than on the right side tube. The result is small rocks and chunks of dirt get wedged between the fork guard and fork until I take the fork guard off and fish them out. Does anybody know if all the 45mm Zokes fork guards are like this?
