What's the deal with the twin pipes on the 09 510? Is it me or is it just extra weight? We're only dealing with one cylinder here and not a huge one at that. Is there a performance advantage or just coolness factor(cause they are damn cool)?

    cheers,

I think it's a sound thing more than anything but I could be wrong. Cool factor for sure though!

Apparently in Europe the sound regs are tougher to meet with a single pipe without sacrificing power. Personally I'd pay more for a bike that came with good dual cans but would tend to avoid one that comes with cheap heavy ones. Not sure if the '09 SMR exhaust is an asset or a liability and it's one reason I'm happy to have an '08. Looks cool though!

i have a 09510smr and they put the twin pipes on there to get more power with less sound. everyone just guts them out to get the sound back or buys some aftermarket ones!

Whizkid at the dealership said they were made by Arrow for husky anyway so you know they're good. If he wasn't lying of course. Salesmen don't do that do they? Super cool ride, I could feel my credit card creepin' up in my shirt pocket as I looked at it.

Is it possible to fit the 09/10 pipes to an 08?

I for one don't like announcing to everyone within 2km how I am riding... especially in the city, I would prefer some more anonymity;). I would like to be able to BRRRAAAPP!, without having every law enforcement officer in 10 mile radius out looking to bust me for nothing.

The Arrow single can from the power-up kit is loud... too loud.

What I'm curious to know is how much do the stock dual cans weigh compared to aftermarket ones and how much more power can be had with aftermarket pipes compared to the stockers?? And from the limited reading I've done, it sounds like gutting the stockers is quite a PITA. I would really like to see some actual weights and dyno runs. Post up if you know of any info on this.

I have a stock left side Arrow can from my TE if your interested in a retrofit. Would prob need the midpipe from a TE or TC but I assume the headers are the same.

About 8lbs and 2HP gained (peak), but dyno showed decent midrange bump...

That might be an interesting experiment?? I still have my '08SMR450 so when i have some extra time I'll see if it's an easy swap between bikes.

Hondas marketing speak for the CRF250 was for exact balance as well as sound suppression with good flow

Well, if Honda said it it must be true. Though that one actually makes sense. Except for the bullshitty balance bit.
