I bought a 530 kit from Motosportz a few weeks ago, and finally got around to installing it on my 2008 510SMR

Mike from Motosportz was very helpful and answered all of my questions, and the price of the kit is VERY reasonable considering everything you get.

Install was cake. I have never done anything besides basic maintenance, but I found the Husky service manual to be very detailed and easy to follow. I did not tear into the bottom end as even at 5800miles there was no play in the lower rod bearings, so I just cleaned the carbon deposits out of the head, put the new cylinder and piston on and reassembled it.

Took it for the first ride yesterday and I am very impressed. I have super tall 16/41 gearing and I was still lifting the wheel in 3rd gear roll-ons . This thing is a torque monster now. Just to be clear: stock gearing is 14/42 and I have 16/41 on now and it is still bringing the front wheel up with throttle only in 3rd!

It is also quite noticeable that I don't have to slip the clutch much to get started in first compared to before with the 501cc original. I believe the 530 kit is actually 532cc, so it is a solid 31cc bump or about 6% and via butt dyno I would say it feels like it gained about that much power (have not revved it past 7k rpm) as it feels like it did with 15/41 gearing and going to 16/41 is about the same bump in ratio as the displacement bump.

Going to play with the fueling later this week and once I get it broken in a bit further, head to a 1/8th mile drag strip where I have some baseline times for some poor man's dyno comparison.

Thanks for posting a report, few have installed this kit so the info is very good to have out there.

    thanks.

I like the idea of the 530 monster motor. Torque is the best grin factor. Since the 510 and 450 share many components, shouldn't the 530 kit bolt up to a 450 lower end? I really miss the grunt of my long gone 510, the new 450 just isn't the same.:excuseme:

From what I understand, the 530 kit wont work on the 450 because the 510 cylinder is taller to accommodate the extra stroke. So the 530 kit cylinder is going to be to tall for the 450 motor.

Correct. Cam chain is to short, rod is not right, lots of reasons it will not work.

The piston would work if you were to bore out your current cylinder. Would give you approx. 478cc I believe.

I didn't see the price on there web site. So how much is it????

Instead of boring out the cylinder (which you can't do because of the nikasil coated liner), could you not just mill the top of the 501cc cylinder down to match the 450cc stroke to get your 478cc???

I am looking at my stock cylinder now, and I can see no reason you couldn't mill .280" (the difference in stroke) off the top of the cylinder. That would be a lot easier

Contact motosportz for pricing... at the time I paid $525 which I thought was very reasonable considering the fact you get the cylinder, piston (which is a work of art in itself), rings, gaskets, coolant fittings, etc.

As an update, I did change the fuel settings to get rid of the autotune lean conditions, but have not ridden it since last posting. I got an Aprilia SXV 550 over the weekend set up to road race that has me distracted at the moment. :D

I suppose that would work as well. When I had a 450, I spoke to my dealer about boring out the cylinder and putting the bigger piston in. It can be done but would involve putting on a new nikasil coating. It's going to cost about the same as the 530 kit, if not more. If milling the 501cc cylinder down would work, that would definitily be an option worth considering for people that are looking for more oomph out of their 450.

Well, I meant if you bought the 530 kit, mill the stroke length delta off the cylinder that already comes with the kit... you can take your 450 to 478cc for a short stroke revver for the price of the 530 kit, plus a simple mill operation, which would be cheaper and easier than trying to bore and recoat the shorter cylinder and then source the piston...

Or you could tear into the bottom end, change your cam chain and crank and go the whole way to 532cc for a torque monster that has more balls up top too

Keep your 450 stickers though just to mess with people;)

The bike is a brute now with 532cc's of BRAAP! Conservative butt dyno estimate is high 50's RWHP with torque in the high 30's:thumbsup:

Sometime soon, I will head to the 1/8th mile drag for official times to compare to the times I had with Husky power-up kit. Taking atmospheric conditions into account, it will be as good as any dyno to compare before and after. Arguably better actually, since that is real world, actual conditions during actual usage, not strapped to a dyno with a fan on looking at extrapolated data derived from a strain gauge with unknown accuracy or repeatability.

    More feedback

I got some more miles on the bike now that the weather has cooled into tolerable temps... I am just amazed at how much more grunt this bike has now. I have enough miles on the engine that I am grabbing full throttle now and it is just nuts; 4th gear 60mph throttle only wheelies I mean it is seriously crazy, with super tall 16/41 gearing it feels like it did stock with the 14/42, but the speeds are much higher. I can cruise down the freeway at 80mph without revving the engine, and yet I still need to be very careful with the throttle and where I am sitting on the bike in the first 3 gears to avoid staring at the sky.

It feels like the descriptions of the Husaberg FS650c's I lusted after with arm ripping thrust at all rpms. And I just looked at the fuel trims and Autotune added a bunch of fuel everywhere (I turned it off below 10% where the lean issues were) for a decent verification I am flowing a lot more air to corroborate my perception of much more power. The truth will be at the dragway time slip.

So far I am very pleased with this cost effective upgrade. :applause:

There was another guy on here with the 530 kit, albeit a 530RR so a tad more head work etc, he was mostly impressed with the difference in torque and the torque curve itself, rather than outright power.
I don't think that the standard 510 is bad in the torque department, so with the extra cc's it must be good:thumbsup:
Defo' something I will be doing when a topend rebuild is required (no brainer really).
As a matter of interest was that price quoted for the kit, exchange or just supply?

As a stock item we will try to keep at least one kit in stock.
