Hi I was hitting some jumps today and noticed that the suspension is a bit harsh on landing. I want to adjust the fork preload but I am not sure which part of the manual refers to the preload, but I wonder if it is under the heading "extension" which has obviously been translated directly from Italian and thus doesn't ring any bells in English. I want to decrease the preload in order to make the suspension softer, but I know the correct way to do this would be to change the fork springs but I am not going to do that every time I go from SM to enduro.
That looks like instructions for upside down forks. Changing preload involves taking the forks apart and changing the preload spacers for different length ones. No. 1 in the schematic View attachment 66269 This is the work i done on my forks < click for link, but mine are upside downies. They look very similar internally to the ones in the schematic though. You could try winding the compression out to take out some of the harshness. Put a cable tie around the fork slider to measure how far your forks are traveling. I like to use as much travel as i can.
D'oh, the 2006 models onwards have upside down forks, mine is a 2001 with conventional forks. I actually knew that but forgot then you mentioned that the manual is referring to upside down forks which reminded me. I will try adjusting the compression then but I don't necessarily want to change the internals because I want to find a medium ground so that the Enduro setup and SM setup can be swapped out with minimal fuss. Although I am having so much fun on green lanes at the moment I don't know if I will ever get around to going back to SM again! The knobblies are decent on the road as well. Maybe I will see how I feel after playing with the compression. Thanks for your help.
