Hi Guys Typically when the sun comes out and you want to get out on the bike so do the Gremlins Went for a ride today and had to turn around as I didn't want to get stranded. My bike has started acting up while riding along the dual carriageways. I get up to speed of about 65 / 70 mph and then the bike starts to run strange like its cutting in and out. I would almost say its a fueling issue but I'm not sure. I find with the bike that I will have to get up to speed in say 5th gear and when in 6th it won't pull so well. The bike starts ok, maybe 2 or three cranks and a blip of throttle to start first, it will idle at 1800rpm too. Bike has the following Power Up Kit : Husqvarna JD Tuner : Set it all to 3 to eliminate this as the issue Leovince x3 end can : No Spark arrestor fitted Standard Airbox (not opened up) Standard gearing Iridium plug New Temp sensor I'm thinking it might be a fueling issue ? maybe the fuel pump is on the way out ? I've seen that some people brought a after market pump as the Husky one is very expensive. What are your thoughts ? I may take the JD off to completely eliminate that from the equation. What should I check, any help appreciated.
Heya Guys Did anyone have any advice on the troubleshooting ? Can a fuel pump be partly faulty ? It primes when I turn on the ignition and not had an issue before.
I had a very short issue of my 08 the 250 running funny like that. I thought it was some water in the gas...maybe ethanol related. Drained gas out and never happened again but can't really say. That was the advice from my dealer/mechanic friend as a first step remedy.
Well, the things you've thought of are often the culprits so you do of course want to look into anything related to fuel supply. That said I've learned that Husky's have electrical gremlins that manifest themselves in interesting ways. For me- on my 630- I had the same symptoms you have had and what it turned out to be, in my case, was a part of the wiring harness (which leads to and connects to the voltage regulator) that had been worn through and was shorting intermittently- until it got bad enough to short out completely (leaving me stranded.) Mine was that part of the loom, and it was where it was routed under the battery tray and then up/alongside of the subframe. Point is- take off the tank and panels and start looking at every bit of wiring that you can. Here's a link to my experience: http://www.cafehusky.com/threads/stranded-again-please-advise.28288/
Cheers Guys Have been busy the last couple of days so will try and get round to doing a bit one evening this week. I'll go through those steps, Pull the Fuel pump and check the connections, prime it on the bench with a battery. Check the wiring on the bike for any shorts. It was almost as if the rev limiter was kicking in and shutting the bike down while riding. I would be on throttle rather than cruising when it was doing this. I managed to get back home but didn't fancy pushing the bike 10 miles
Just wanted to update anyone that has helped. Problem is fixed. I stripped the bike down today, Checked all the connections and put some contact cleaner in them. Also replaced the Fuel filter and cleaned the air filter. I did take the JD Tuner off too just to eliminate that, Have now refitted it and the bike is running better than ever. Think the fuel filter had pulled in some crap and never been replaced before. Total cost of fix, £3.50 and some time in the garage.
