This may have been discussed before, but I have to vent a bit here. It's inevitable that I'll order an exhaust for my 630, but damn, what's with the inflated pricing? I'm using FMF as the focus of my rant since they sell a slip on for just about every model of Husky out there. Most of these go for $300-400, with the highest price being a Ti slip on. But then the 630 slip-ons get a price tag of $550+. What gives? I can't imagine R&D for a new pipe had to be THAT extensive that it warrants a nearly double retail cost. Thoughts?

You get almost 3/4 of a full system with the FMF. It isnt a bad deal actually.

Aha! That's probably it. I was assuming all slip-ons came as such, rather than a solitary canister. Thanks for the heads up.

I actually thought the same thing with regards to the FMF Q4. I put one on an XR628 I built, and the muffler with midpipe was in the mid $300 list price, and around $300 on sale. The FMF Q4 for the TE 630 lists for $649, and is a single muffler with midpipe.
FMF is great stuff, but the difference in price caught me a little offguard too, especially since the Leo Vince slip-on is dual canisters and a more involved midpipe for the same $649 list price.

Leo Vince offers a dual slip-on setup that allows you to keep the oem titanium head pipes on the TE630. My Leo Vince Enduro X3 slip-on pipes came with two new carbon fiber heat shields and additional DB killers/ spark arrestors for $550.00 shipped to my door. I beat up my dealer to get that price and am happy with the results :D. Dual cans weigh a few pounds more but flow better than a single can. Only if you compare apples to apples, meaning for instance one Leo can vs two identical cans.

The gutted stock cans work really well, but you do only give up about 5lbs, and they're still quiet (good or bad thing!).

I simply could not afford a new system after all the other accessories and all the other bikes.

Just throwin' it out there.

I might make that my winter project. Probably make it into a single left exit can and shorten it a bit. I'm just not seeing the "value" in these AM exhausts.

That's what I want to do: Use the stock can, gut it, and make it a single. Keep in mind you'll need to also have a pipe shop fab a mid pipe as the stock mid pipe that connects directly to the can is too small.

    The OEM headpipes are titanium?

The best price I got to fab a new, full-diameter stainless midpipe was $150. I went to three custom shops. I stuck with the Leo slipons. They just...slip right on. :D
The Leos sound really nice (and NOT loud) with the optional db killers that are normally shipped with the full Ti system. The slipons come with only a spark arrestor, not a true db killer insert. I had Dan/MotoX order me a pair of the other ones from Leo.

The db killers have a smaller exit diameter, but I had read a few dyno reviews of other Leo mufflers with and without the db killers...and the power output was the same either way. I certainly can't tell any power difference with and without them. And they sound much, much nicer.

I thought they were...I guess not. They are silver when brand new and shortly turn golden after they run. They are slightly attracted with a magnet so titanium is out. Does anyone know what metal the head pipes are made from??

stainless turns a nice golden hue as it "cures"....Ti turns blue

Certain stainless alloys are magnetic. Not a lot, but they are.

Hmmmm, here's mine with stock tubes...

I'm 95% sure it's stainless. You get stainless hot enough and it will "cure" blue as well. Our primaries get the hottest sitting at idle.

This, and Ti is non-magnetic, so that should settle it.

Since titanium is nonmagnetic or paramagnetic the pipes cannot be titanium. As stated above, we are looking at a type of stainless steel for the head pipes. I tried a magnet on them and it barley stuck. Stainless steel can be found in many different ways in different applications. For instance, stainless steel appliances typically don't have magnetic properties...just ask my 3 year old why she can't put anything on the fridge. The magnetic properties of stainless steel depend on the elements added into the alloy when made. Specifically, the addition of nickel can change the structure from magnetic to non-magnetic.

Thanks to Travis Shrey and ContraHusky for pointing out my mistake.

I don't mean to get off topic but I noticed you and I have the same Hyde Racing skid plate. I was thinking about drilling some holes on the front left and right sides for additional air flow. Your thoughts?? Will it howl or whistle?? Anyone drill holes on their Hyde skid plate??
