    Hi gang-

My 630 is at about 600 miles now, and I am wondering what experiences you guys have had on the first valve check. Here's why I throw this out there...

I know the owner's manual says to check 'em after the first 1000 km (~620 miles.) The dealer is 4 hours round trip, and since I have to have it in there soon anyway (to get hooked up to iBeat) I figure I'll have them do the first valve check.

What are your "real-world" experiences? Is 600 too soon, or so should I wait until around 800....or even 1,000 miles? I don't care to risk anything, but since this will be a long day trip I want to time it optimally.

    Thanks!

    Eric

    How are you with wrenches?
You can get the shop manual from jtemple and check them yourself, it's easier on the 630 than it was on the 610

I don't have an issue w/ doing it myself, necessarily, but figuring that since it has to be in the shop relatively soon anyway I'd have them do it.

600 miles was where my dealer wanted to check it over, adjust valves and re-torque the head

I have checked my valve clearance at the manuals' recommended intervals (600, 3000, 6000 miles). Everything was in spec until the 6000 mile check. That's when I had to throw in some thicker shims.

Had mine done at 1000.00 KM. With a two year warranty i am not doing anything myself that would void it. My bike had one valve out and my wife's 2.

I'll be doing mine even though my dealer said, "Meh...wait till 3k." Not because I think he's wrong, but more because I want to learn how to do it, so might as well do it before a trip that I have planned. I can't ride the thing around in the evenings, so I might as well sit on a stool in the garage and play with it.

It's that or watch iCarly reruns with my daughter...

Wow- I was considering waiting until the 1,000 mile mark (which would be 1600 kkm's) but after reading that it's sounding as though I'd better get in sooner rather than later.

make sure that you realize some are talking about other Husqvarna engines besides the 630.

Good point. I tried to go back and edit, but you can't change the thread title.

All TE bikes carry 2 year waranty in Canada. Sweet deal.

I changed the title a bit...

Regardless of what engine, I would check things earlier rather than later if possible. The factory is not always 100% on those types of things.

Thanks guys. My hope was to take a day off next week to take the trip and knock a few things out...but work threw me one so perhaps the week after. Sounds as though there's little risk in adding a few hundred more miles (prob ride more this weekend, and then it's another 100 miles to the shop.)

Wonder why some seem more stable than others. TE450pilot, above, has 2 630's and both were out of spec, though it seems most have been within longer than 600 miles or so.

Bill- I'm after a slip on so hoping to give you a shout w/in the next few days. Been reading up on the options and just have a couple clarification q's.

Why is the 630 valve adjust easier than the 610?

The motor has to be stone cold to check the valves. You wouldn't normally drive there and wait for it to be done...the bike needs to sit for several hours...not like an oil change.

Yes, I understand that, but haven't any choice as I've no way to trailer it. The plan will have to be to get up at the break of day, hit the road, and be prepared for it to be there most of the day. Luckily my sis lives w/in 30 minutes of the place, so likely to catch up w/ her while there.

Bucket & shim valves, DOHC engine, I guess. I don't know for sure; never had a 610.
