To all the new 630 owners: Is the stock headlight on the 630 better than the headlight on the 610? Thanks
I've never seen a stock 610 headlight in action to compare it with. But, the wattage is higher on the 630. My step-dad was in front of me on a night ride and he said he could hardly look in his mirrors because I was blinding him. I wasn't using my high beams. I have since added some preload to the rear shock which may lower the angle of the headlight some. I ride at night with a light smoked face shield on my DS helmet and don't have any trouble seeing stuff.
That's good information. It already sounds a heck of a lot better than the stock 610 light. I could barely see on my first night ride with the 610, and had to upgrade the light. Thanks for the response!
I have the 630TE. Can't compare the old to the new, but I hated the headlight, as the reflector is not smooth and has lines in it, which were all over the feild of view, like vertical dim areas. Also there was alot of light coming back in my face from the back side of the light where it was not sealed. I put on the Brittania Composites Lynx, and it is super-blinding, but $500. Negatives on the product are that I had to chase down some different fasteners, and solder in some longer wires.
I have a sm630 and don't know how the 610 light works but I have no problems with my headlight at night. I can see everything fine, there are lines because of the shape of the headlight but they don't impair my vision.
The stock light on my '08 TE 510 is the same as the TE 610 of that era. It really sucked and was only good for about 40mph before you out ran the light. The 630 light is MUCH better. It's a standard 55w/60 H4 bulb. The lens on the 630 difuses the beam a little odd, but still good for highway speeds, imo.
