Within the last few hundred miles I've noticed when coming to a stop after down-shifting, and starting again my 630 wants to stay in neutral, and requires continuously hitting the shifter to get her to go in first. Does anyone have a similar problem?

I have no other issues during shifting except when it wants to stay in neutral when coming to a stop. It also makes a chattery noise when I'm idling in Neutral, and then I engage the clutch while it is still in neutral and the noise discontinues.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

Did you have the clutch push rod changed out?

I had that performed over the winter as part of the recall. Was that the primary reason (why I'm having my problem) that recall had to be done?

    Thanks

You say stay in neutral. Are you intentionally shifting into neutral when you come to a stop? I keep mine in gear just about all the time, especially on the street. You never know when you might need to GTFO at the last second, if some airhead thinks sending a text message is more important than trying not to kill anyone.

When you're in neutral and trying to get into first, are you at a stop? If that particular shift is clunky, that can be related to old oil. How frequently to do you change yours, and what oil do you use?

If you keep your oil fresh (I change mine every 1500-2000 miles), you might want to try switching oil brands. I won't go into what I use, to avoid the usual oil brand/viscosity debate, but I recently switched brands and now my shifting is a lot smoother than it used to be. Most notable is the ease at which I can get into and out of neutral.

I believe there wasn't enough clearance for the push rod and it was binding up, causing sticky clutches.

I'm intentionally trying to downshift into first gear at a stop sign or stoplight. Once I stop I assume i'm in first gear, and the neutral light isn't on, but half the time it ends up in neutral when I go to accelerate. So, I'm at a complete stop. I've changed my oil 3 times and only have 3.300 miles to date. I use Golden spectro 20w50 part synthetic. I'm wondering if there is something wrong with my shifter internally. I had that problem with a YZ 125 a few years back and had to replace a shifter bearing internally, but that affected multiple gears including neutral.

Incidentally, at the risk of starting an oil debate, what type of oil do you use?

    Thanks

I used to use Rotella T6 in pretty much everything. My 630 had always been reluctant to go into neutral with that oil.

I read quite a few stories of Amsoil delivering a smoother shifting tranny, so I ordered up a gallon.

So far, I only have a few hundred miles on my first round of Amsoil, but the improvement in shifting (most notably, finding neutral) was immediate.

You have some kind of false neutral issue though. It may not be oil related, but it would be cheap and easy to try.

    JTemple,

Thanks for your input. I take it that the Amsoil is full synthetic - correct? I've always heard great things about that product. I will give that a shot first, and see if that helps mitigate the issue, but if not will take it in to have it looked at.

    Thanks

Yes, Amsoil is full synthetic. I'm using their 10W-40 Motorcycle oil.
