Just installed the HPI ignition on my 82 HuskyXC430 and I am using my dial indicator that is calibrated for 0-1'' at .001" graduations. Is there an ideal setting for easier starting? I am currently at (as close I can tell because it is so hard to read behind flywheel) , at .086". I believe this is as close as to 2.2mm that I can get. It was suggested to run it up to .090" -.095" for easier starting...just want to check with the group to see if their are any proven specs. By the way ,it is the HPI PD40351 ignition kit W/ their regulator, non resistor B8ES plug and I am using the NGK LB01E, 1 ohm, resistor cap instead of the lawn mower spark plug cap that was provided.

General rule is, a little retard will make starting easier, reduce kickbacks (not so much of a problem with 2-strokes), and will soften the power hit a little...maybe not a bad thing on a 430cc machine.
Too much retard makes a little hole in the top of the piston.
I'm not familiar with that ignition, but on many modern electronic ignitions, the entire range of adjustment is useable without danger...it's just preference for what characteristics you like.

I have had no luck with HPI igntion systems on larger capacity Husqvarna's. Although they seem fine on 250's. I recommend no more timing advance than 2.mm BTDC, i generally set mine at about 1.8-1.9 with no noticeable lack of power. They will kick back and it can cause extensive damage.

Get it close, then adjust it by ear, that's what I did. You'd be amazed what a little tweaking
can do. Never had my 430 kick back , but my 500 & 390 it was very common. Remember
it's a range/ starting point & your results my vary.
