Hi All, hope everyone had a good holiday! Wet wet wet over here in the UK - at least where I am.

Sorry - I'm after your help again.

Having taken my '83 XC500 to pieces after it's inaugural ride to clean it and also take stock of what's come lose or undone (plenty), I've noticed that the front exhaust pipe is rubbing heavily on the frame.

Where the pipe comes out of the cylinder and sweeps first down and then across (the lower exhaust horizontal bit) it rubs against the front of the frame downtube.

At the top where the exhaust pipe crosses over the cylinder the front of the pipe rubs agains the back of the frame front downtube.

I was wondering whether anyone else had had these issues, and whether it's a case of some kind of adjustment (raising the front of the engine by 10mm would probably skew the exhaust off the frame) or whether maybe I have the wrong pipe.

I'll try and get some pictures posted up, meanwhile if this sounds familiar to anyone I'd appreciate your experiences.

    Cheers
    Luc

Luc- it could be the wrong pipe for the frame but just so you know I had the same problem with my '82.5 500.

Thanks for that Left Coast. Did you manage to adjust the fit somehow, or was it a case of finding a different pipe?

I'll have to do something, as in its present state it's going to damage the frame and the pipe. Worst case scenario will be putting two carefully located dents in the pipe!

    Cheers

I adjusted the fit by playing with the front hight of the engine (that's how much slop was in the mounts). Denting the pipe is probably the best solution.

The 82-84 500 had a tight fit for the pipe. Everything has to be pretty much perfect for it to clear. Good luck... and we love pictures of old 500's (hint, hint).
