Have a look at the parts diagram for the 84's.
If you don't have one, PM me your email address and I will send it over.

There's a nylon roller above the chain on the top of the swing arm near the rubbing block. It looks like 3/8" round by 1" wide?

are you talking about the "idler" roller that bolts to the frame above the countershaft area? i dont think any bike had one here except the 175. i still put a large roller here and apparently it does do something when the bike is being pounded hard, as there are witness marks on it. probably not needed.
theres an exploded diagram in the manual, phil sells all the rollers

If you are talking about the chain tensioner it goes into a tube on the underside of the swingarm mounted to the left side and extends to the right. Phillip has complete repair kits for that. My 84 does not have any rollers in contact with the chain except the one on the chain tensioner. On other brands I have seen rolls on the swingarm pivot.

Bill, what you described I think did not come from the factory.

there is a tube on some bikes that has top roller written all over it but was for the single shockers I think and got welded on some twin shock frames

My 84 250Wr has the chain roller above & slightly behind the counter shaft sprocket as well, same basic size as the lower
    one, which mine didn't have.

On the top side of your swing arm in front of the tire there's that little bracket with the hole in it? Does that get a smaller roller of some type. We can just see the hole in the pic.

Follow the kick stand up to the top side of the swing arm and see that rounded bracket with the hole in it?

Too bad these bikes are missing so much stuff. My 84 is the first milk truck to have the chain tensioner in place. I have the double roller in front of the sprocket. I want to make the chain roller system like new with everything in place. My son cracked the case on his 430 when it threw the chain. I'm not sure what happened I was there.

John, your 84 250 has the same motor as my 83 model. can you look at my separate thread from yesterday about the exhaust pipe and see if you can see how the picture of the pipe may be different from yours?

    Regards

Hey Bill, there is no top roller on the twin shockers, aint in the parts book anywhere. the tube is there and I would guess it was added at some point but never used.

The tube is on all 3 of my twin shock frames. I happened to notice that this last weekend. 2 WR frames and 1 83 CR frame

There's a 3/8" diameter roller used as a up top chain slap roller. There's a sleeve welded to the frame above the chain slider area. My 83/84 wr have it. It's a plastic roller with no bearing it rides on the bolt.

It was on there when it was new that's why the sleeve is welded on the frame.
It's a up stop chain roller.

Then why does that roller not show in the twin shock parts manuals?

it will be something the factory thought of but testing probably never found the need for it so the frame mod goes into production but the parts arnt put on.

Every 83/84 250cr/250wr/430wr had this sleeve welded on the frame for this roller.

Every bike I seen is missing it.
